Matthew 10:28

Matthew 10:28
10:28 “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (NASB)

The concept of not fearing persecutors in Matthew 10:28 has several parallels in the Torah. Note Moses and Pharaoh in Exodus 5-14, Moses confronts Pharaoh, the most powerful ruler of the time, to demand the release of the Israelites. Despite the repeated threats and persecution from Pharaoh, Moses stands firm, trusting in God’s command and protection. This story illustrates the importance of fearing God rather than human persecutors. Joseph, in Genesis 37-50, faces numerous persecutions—from being sold into slavery by his brothers to being falsely accused and imprisoned. Throughout these trials, Joseph remains faithful to God, ultimately rising to a position of power in Egypt and saving his family from famine. His story highlights the significance of trusting in God’s sovereignty over any human persecution. These narratives from the Torah align with the NT teaching in Matthew 10:28, emphasizing that the fear of God should outweigh the fear of human persecutors. This is how Yeshua taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
