In various places in the NT text, Paul commands us to be Strong in the Lord (1 Corinthians 16:13, Ephesians 6:10, 2 Timothy 2:1). The Torah does emphasize the importance of strength and reliance on God in several instances. For example, in the book of Deuteronomy, Moses urges the Israelites to be strong and courageous. Deuteronomy 31:6 states, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” This verse underscores the importance of being strong in the Lord. In Exodus, the Israelites are commanded to rely on God for their deliverance from Egypt. Exodus 14:14 states, “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” This verse emphasizes the concept of relying on God’s strength rather than one’s own strength. These examples share the common theme of strength and reliance on God. The Torah has not passed away!
