Jude and John taught the concept “Remember Truth” (Jude 17-18; Rev. 3:3). This is not merely about mental recall, it’s about covenant fidelity, guarding revelation, and holding fast to what God has spoken. Note how this entire framework is born in the Torah.
– Torah Parallels to “Remember Truth” (Jude 17–18; Rev. 3:3) –
- “Remember the words I commanded you” the Torah’s core parallel Deut. 4:9–10, 4:23, 8:2, 11:18–20; The Torah’s most repeated memory‑command is not about events but about God’s revealed truth.
- “Do not add to or take away from the truth” guarding revelation Deut. 4:2, 12:32; The Torah establishes the principle that God’s revealed truth must be preserved exactly as given.
- “Remember the day you stood before the LORD at Horeb” remembering revelation’s origin Deut. 4:10–12 Israel must remember not only the content of truth but the moment of revelation.
- “Teach your children” preserving truth across generations Deut. 6:6–9, 31:12–13; The Torah’s memory ethic is generational.
- “Write the truth down” memorializing revelation Exod. 17:14; Deut. 27:2–8; The Torah commands Israel to inscribe truth so it cannot be forgotten.
- “Beware lest you forget” the Torah’s warning against truth‑amnesia Deut. 8:11–14, 32:18; The Torah repeatedly warns that forgetting truth leads to spiritual collapse.
- “Remember the Law of Moses” the Torah’s explicit memory command Deut. 31:24–29; This is the clearest direct parallel.
– Context Synthesis –
- Remember God’s words Deut. 4; 6; 8; Truth is received, not invented, “Remember the words spoken.”
- Guard revelation Deut. 4:2; 12:32 Truth must not be altered, Warnings against false teachers.
- Remember revelation’s origin Deut. 4:10–12 Recall how truth was given, “Remember how you received and heard.”
- Teach and transmit truth Deut. 6; 31 Apostolic tradition, Jude’s appeal to apostolic words.
- Write truth down Exod. 17; Deut. 27 Scripture as memorial, Revelation’s call to remember.
- Beware forgetting Deut. 8; 32 Forgetting leads to judgment, Revelation’s warning to Sardis.
- Remember Moses’ teaching, Deut. 31 Apostolic teaching after their departure, Jude’s warning after apostles.
– Core Insight –
The Torah does not use the phrase “remember truth,” but it establishes the entire covenant framework behind Jude 17–18 and Revelation 3:3: God reveals truth → the people must remember it → guard it → transmit it → and beware forgetting it. This is how Jude and John taught Torah in the NT, the Torah has not passed away!
