The Torah lays the foundation for the New Testament command to “love one another” among believers. (John 13:34; 15:12-17; Gal. 5:14; 1 Peter 2:17; 1 John 3:23; 2 John 5) While Yeshua intensifies and redefines it around His own sacrificial love, the seed principles are already present in the Torah. – Torah Parallels to “Love Fellow Christians” – Leviticus 19:18 Love Your Neighbor, Leviticus 19:34 Love the Stranger, Deuteronomy 10:19 Love the Sojourner, Deuteronomy 15:7–11 Care for the Poor Among You, and Exodus 23:4–5 Do Good Even to an Enemy. Make note how these Torah commands anticipate the NT call to love not only fellow believers but even our enemies. The Torah establishes the ethic of covenantal love: first to fellow believers, then to strangers. Yeshua deepens and redefines it saying “as I have loved you” sacrificial and life laying down humility. The apostles also apply this concept to love within the body of Christ and say this is the defining mark of the new covenant community. This is how Yeshua, Paul, Peter, and John all taught Torah in the NT text, the Torah has not passed away!
