Bits of Torah Truths – Torah Concept in the NT: Let Women Learn Quietly or at Home – Episode 530
1 Corinthians 14:34–35

Paul taught that women should learn quietly in the congregation or at home according to (1 Corinthians 14:34-35; 1 Timothy 2:11) There are passages in the Torah that touch on themes of learning, submission, and structured instruction. For example, Genesis 3:16 After the fall, the Lord God tells Eve that her husband will rule over her. Some interpretations link this to broader themes of submission. In Numbers 30:3-16 Moses discusses vows made by women, stating that a father or husband has the authority to nullify a woman’s vow. Some scholars see this as an example of male leadership in spiritual matters. In Deuteronomy 6:6-7 these passages commands parents to teach their children the words of the Torah diligently, emphasizing structured learning within the household. While it does not specify gender, traditional interpretations often placed the primary responsibility on fathers. And in Exodus 19:3-8 the Lord God gives the Torah at Mount Sinai, Moses serves as the intermediary, relaying divine instruction to the people. This structured transmission of knowledge aligns with the idea of orderly learning. While these passages do not directly parallel 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 or 1 Timothy 2:11, they reflect ideas of structured learning and authority within the religious life of women. This is how Paul and the NT taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
