Ephesians 5:22
5:22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. (NASB)
Ephesians 5:24
5:24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. (NASB)
Colossians 3:18
3:18 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. (NASB)
1 Peter 3:1–6
3:1 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, 3:2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior. 3:3 Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 3:4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 3:5 For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands; 3:6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear. (NASB)

The Torah contains passages that parallel the concept of wives being subject to their husbands, as seen in Ephesians 5:22-24, Colossians 3:18, and 1 Peter 3:1-6. One key passage is Genesis 3:16, where God tells Eve after the fall: “Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” This verse establishes a dynamic in which the husband has authority over his wife. Another relevant passage is Genesis 2:18, where God says: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” The Hebrew word for “helper” (ezer) does not imply inferiority but rather a complementary role. Additionally, Numbers 30:6-8 discusses how a husband has the authority to nullify his wife’s vows, reinforcing the idea of male leadership within marriage. Note that the Torah also emphasizes mutual respect and care. For example, Exodus 21:10-11 ensures that a husband must provide for his wife’s needs. This is how Paul and the NT text taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
