There are rich Torah parallels to the concept of “walking honestly” from Romans 13:12. While Paul uses the Greek term euschēmonōs (translated as “honestly” or “decently”), the Torah expresses this idea through commands for upright conduct, integrity, and walking in God’s ways. For example, Walking honestly / decently – God says “Walk before Me and be blameless” – Genesis 17:1 – God commands Abraham to walk in integrity (tamim) a foundational call to upright living – Putting off works of darkness – “Choose life… walk in His ways” – Deuteronomy 30:15–16 – Moshe urges believers to walk in God’s commandments, rejecting sin and choosing righteousness – Avoiding revelry and immorality – “Do not follow the crowd in doing evil” – Exodus 23:2 – A call to moral independence and uprightness, even when others choose corruption – Living as children of light – “You shall be holy, for I am holy” – Leviticus 19:2 – Holiness is expressed through ethical living, honesty, justice, and purity in daily walk. Paul’s call to “walk honestly” is deeply rooted in Torah ethics: Integrity before God (Genesis 17:1), Moral clarity and separation from evil (Exodus 23:2), Daily obedience as a path of life (Deuteronomy 30:16), and Holiness in conduct (Leviticus 19). This is how Paul taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
