Romans 13:13
13:13 Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. (NASB)

There are strong Torah foundations that parallel the NT exhortation “Let us not walk in envying” (Galatians 5:26). The Five Books of Moses consistently portray envy as a destructive force that undermines covenantal relationships, disrupts community, and leads to sin. – Torah Parallels to “Not Walking in Envy” – Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1–8), Sarah and Hagar (Genesis 16:1–6), Rachel and Leah (Genesis 30:1), Joseph and His Brothers (Genesis 37:3–11), Korah’s Rebellion (Numbers 16:1–3), and The Tenth Commandment (Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21) “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house…wife…or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” Notice how the Torah repeatedly shows envy as a catalyst for sin (Cain, Joseph’s brothers). A disrupter of relationships (Sarah/Hagar, Rachel/Leah). A challenge to God’s order (Korah). The antidote is contentment, gratitude, and love of neighbor (Leviticus 19:18: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself”). Paul’s exhortation in Galatians 5:26 is not a new ethic but a continuation of Torah’s moral foundation, reframed in the Spirit-led community of Messiah. This is how Paul understood and taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
