The concept of giving as God prospers is deeply rooted in the Torah. One strong parallel is found in Deuteronomy 16:16, which instructs that during the three major pilgrimage festivals (Shelosh Regalim) Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkot, no one should appear before God empty-handed. This reflects the idea that giving should be proportional to one’s blessings. In addition, the Torah emphasizes tithing (Ma’aser), where Israel was commanded to set aside a portion of their produce and wealth to support the Levites, the poor, and the Temple (see Leviticus 27:30, Deuteronomy 14:22-29). This aligns with Paul’s instruction in 1 Corinthians 16:2, where believers were encouraged to set aside a sum of money in keeping with their income. Note, this is how Paul and the NT text taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
