1 Corinthians 14:26

1 Corinthians 14:26
14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. (KJV)

Paul exhorts us saying “Let All things be done to edify” (1 Corinthians 14:26). The concept of edification or building up others spiritually and morally is deeply rooted in the Torah. While 1 Corinthians 14:26 emphasizes that all things should be done to edify the body of believers, the Torah contains numerous passages that highlight the importance of uplifting others, fostering community, and promoting righteousness. For example, Exodus 18:20 describes Moses being advised to teach the people God’s laws so they may live righteously, reinforcing the idea of spiritual growth and communal strengthening. Leviticus 19:18 commands, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” which is a foundational principle of edification which is synonymous to acting in ways that benefit others. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 instructs believers to teach God’s commandments diligently to their children, ensuring that wisdom and faith are passed down. These passages align with the idea that worship, teaching, and communal interactions should serve to build up individuals and the faith community. This is how the NT text teaches Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
