Colossians 3:15

Colossians 3:15
3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. (KJV)

Here in the NT text we are being commanded to be thankful (Colossians 3:15). The concept of gratitude is prevalent throughout Jewish texts, including the Torah. We note in Judaism, the Modeh Ani is the first prayer uttered upon waking up in the morning. It expresses gratitude to God for restoring one’s soul after sleep. The Torah prescribes various offerings, including the Todah Korban (thanksgiving offering). The Todah Korban was brought to express gratitude for deliverance from danger or illness. It involved both sacrifices and a festive meal shared with family and friends. The list could go on such as: Blessings Before and After Meals, Honor Your Parents, Psalms of Thanksgiving, Jewish practices, traditions, and customs are infused with gratitude which permeates daily life. This is how Paul taught Torah. The Torah has not passed away!
