Romans 12:11
יא שִׁקְדוּ וְאַל תִּתְעַצְּלוּ. הֱיוּ נִלְהֲבֵי רוּחַ וְשָׁרְתוּ אֶת הָאָדוֹן.

Romans 12:11
12:11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; (NASB)

Here Paul teaches us to be Fervent in Spirit in service to the Lord (Romans 12:11). The underlying Torah centric principle here is on the emphasis to serve God. The Torah emphasizes the importance of serving God with all one’s heart and soul. For instance, Deuteronomy 6:5 commands, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” This suggests a wholehearted, passionate commitment to serving God, which aligns with the concept of a fervent spirit. Moreover, numerous stories and commandments in the Torah underscore the importance of zeal in serving God and living according to His commandments. For example, the zeal of Phinehas in Numbers 25, the commitment of Abraham to follow God’s commands, and the dedication of Moses in leading the Israelites all reflect a fervent spirit in serving God. This is how Paul taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
