1 Peter 2:6

1 Peter 2:6
6 For this is contained in Scripture: “Behold I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, And he who believes in Him shall not be disappointed.” (NASB)

Isaiah 28:16
16 Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed. (NASB)

Here in 1 Peter 2:6, Peter quotes from Isaiah 28:16 that speaks of the stone in Zion. Peter’s reference is to the Messiah Yeshua. This metaphorical stone represents the Messiah’s reliability, stability, and faithfulness. This concept also aligns with the concept of God as the ultimate foundation and cornerstone, which resonates throughout the entire Bible. The stone tablets in the Torah also serve to remind us of the covenant we have with God and the Torah which was given to guide us in righteous living. The idea of a cornerstone symbolizes the central and crucial role that God and His Messiah play in the spiritual and moral foundation of His people. The Torah contains rich imagery related to stones, whether as a foundation, a guide, or a source of provision. These parallels emphasize both God’s and the Messiah’s sovereignty, reliability, and covenant relationship with His people. The Torah has not passed away!
