James 4:12

James 4:12
12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor? (NASB)

The Tanakh (OT) and the NT text both state that God desires for there to be justice, truth, and rule of law. Here in James 4:12, this is emphasized by James saying that HaShem is our Lawgiver. This draws to memory the exodus and how God brought Israel to Sinai to make a covenant with His people and then give them His mitzvot (commands) on how to live. The interesting aspect of this verse in James is the declaration that God is the law giver. The question then is, why is there a need for a Lawgiver if the Law is done away with? The Torah has not passed away!
