Moshe also tells us that the Lord God Almighty will transform (cut away at) our hearts so that we will love the Lord our God and not depart from His commandments.\u00a0 At the end of the book of Leviticus in Parashat Bechukotai, the Lord says in <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Vayikra \/ Leviticus 26:40 \u2018If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me 26:41 I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies or if their uncircumcised heart becomes humbled so that they then make amends for their iniquity, 26:42 then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also My covenant with Isaac, and My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land. (NASB)<\/span><\/em> The Scriptures indicate that if the people repent the Lord will remember His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and save them. According to these Scriptures, the repentance process is also a part of this heart circumcision process in which the Lord God Himself is involved. Moshe said in <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 10:16 \u201d&#8230; and stiffen your neck no longer,\u201d<\/span><\/em> meaning we are to be humble before God. In <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Vayikra \/ Leviticus 26:41<\/span><\/em>, Moshe speaks of people who have uncircumcised hearts and if they would humble themselves the Lord would return them to the land.\u00a0 In addition to this, prophetically speaking (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Jeremiah 31:30<\/span><\/em>) the purpose of the New Covenant, made by faith in Yeshua the Messiah, was so that God would circumcise our hearts. The way this would be accomplished is by the Lord writing His Law upon our hearts so we would desire to obey Him. According to these verses, it appears that it is the Lord God who enables us to love Him with all of our heart, mind, and strength ( \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b8\u05d4\u05b7\u05d1\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8 \u05d0\u05b5\u05ea \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05db\u05b8\u05dc-\u05dc\u05b0\u05d1\u05b8\u05d1\u05b0\u05da\u05b8 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b0\u05db\u05b8\u05dc-\u05e0\u05b7\u05e4\u05b0\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05da\u05b8 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b0\u05db\u05b8\u05dc-\u05de\u05b0\u05d0\u05d3\u05b9\u05b6\u05da\u05b8 ) just as we are supposed to do according to <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 6:4-5<\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Description of the Lord God being involved in the cutting away of the dead parts of our hearts, is a description of the Lord working in our lives to change us from the inside out.\u00a0 It is the Lord God who causes us to have the desire to draw near, to walk in His ways, and to seek His holiness and righteousness.\u00a0 These are the things that are found within the details of the Salvation of God for His people.\u00a0 The Lord is looking for the inward change, He is looking for a people that seeks Him and seeks His will in their lives. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.\u2019 31:9 So Moses wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. (NASB)<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are a number of interesting things that may be observed in the opening verses of Parashat Vayelech.\u00a0 First, in the Hebrew language, the Hebrew word for <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cHe will save\u201d<\/span><\/em> is \u05d9\u05e9\u05e2 (\u201cyasha\u201d) which has the same root as the name <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cYeshua\u201d<\/span><\/em> (\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2).\u00a0 The name given to Yeshua reveals to us what he has done, the Messiah saves.\u00a0 The etymology of the name Yeshua (\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2) suggests that this name is a contraction on the name Yehoshua (\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2) Joshua.\u00a0 With this in mind, the idea of Joshua going ahead of Israel into the Promised Land is rich with meaning according to the Torah.<\/p>\n<p>The meaning of the name Yeshua (\u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2) is provided for us explicitly within the text in <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Matthew 1:21<\/span><\/em>, the NASB renders the verse as <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cShe will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus (Yeshua), for he will save his people from their sins.\u201d<\/span><\/em> (\u05d5\u05d4\u05d9\u05d0 \u05d9\u05dc\u05d3\u05ea \u05d1\u05df \u05d5\u05e7\u05e8\u05d0\u05ea \u05d0\u05ea \u05e9\u05de\u05d5 \u05d9\u05e9\u05d5\u05e2 \u05db\u05d9 \u05d4\u05d5\u05d0 \u05d9\u05d5\u05e9\u05d9\u05e2 \u05d0\u05ea \u05e2\u05de\u05d5 \u05de\u05e2\u05d5\u05e0\u05d5\u05ea\u05d9\u05d4\u05dd\u05c3)\u00a0 There seems to be a parallel here to what we are reading in <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 31:7 Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, \u2018Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance. (NASB)<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 In the Tanach, the names parents gave to their children generally expressed the future expectation of their children or how blessed the parent was in being given a son or a daughter.\u00a0 The Torah states that Moshe called to Joshua.\u00a0 Another way of reading this might be that Moshe called out unto Salvation (\u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0 \u05de\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05d4 \u05dc\u05b4\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05bb\u05e2\u05b7) in the sight of all Israel.\u00a0 Note that the scripture says that Yehoshua (Joshua) would not depart from the Ohel Moed (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Shemot \/ Exodus 33:11<\/span><\/em>).\u00a0 Salvation is found within the Ohel Moed, in the presence of God.\u00a0 Note also that Moshe speaks to the Lord requesting that His presence come with the Children of Israel (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">33:12-17<\/span><\/em>) and we are told that the Lord\u2019s presence will go before Israel into the Land, and before Joshua.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the Torah tells us that the Lord declares He will bring Caleb and Joshua into the land because they remained faithful to Him.\u00a0 The Lord says that they have a different spirit, a spirit that follows the Lord fully (\u05db\u05d3\u00a0\u00a0 \u05d5\u05b0\u05e2\u05b7\u05d1\u05b0\u05d3\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05db\u05b8\u05dc\u05b5\u05d1 \u05e2\u05b5\u05e7\u05b6\u05d1 \u05d4\u05b8\u05d9\u05b0\u05ea\u05b8\u05d4 \u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05d7\u05b7 \u05d0\u05b7\u05d7\u05b6\u05e8\u05b6\u05ea \u05e2\u05b4\u05de\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05b0\u05de\u05b7\u05dc\u05bc\u05b5\u05d0 \u05d0\u05b7\u05d7\u05b2\u05e8\u05b8\u05d9 \u05d5\u05b7\u05d4\u05b2\u05d1\u05b4\u05d9\u05d0\u05b9\u05ea\u05b4\u05d9\u05d5 \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc-\u05d4\u05b8\u05d0\u05b8\u05e8\u05b6\u05e5 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8-\u05d1\u05bc\u05b8\u05d0 \u05e9\u05c1\u05b8\u05de\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d6\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05e2\u05d5\u05b9 \u05d9\u05d5\u05b9\u05e8\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e0\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4:).\u00a0 The promise of God to circumcise the heart of His people results in an inward change that facilitates the removal of the flesh from one\u2019s will allowing the Spirit of God to direct us.\u00a0 In a parallel fashion, the Lord God says that He will cross over into the Promised land ahead of you (\u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d0 | \u05e2\u05b9\u05d1\u05b5\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b0\u05e4\u05b8\u05e0\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d0-\u05d9\u05b7\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05de\u05b4\u05d9\u05d3 \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05d4\u05b7\u05d2\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd \u05d4\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc\u05bc\u05b6\u05d4 \u05de\u05b4\u05dc\u05bc\u05b0\u05e4\u05b8\u05e0\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8) and Salvation (Yehoshua, \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05bb\u05e2\u05b7 , Joshua) will cross over ahead of you as the Lord has spoken (\u05d5\u05b4\u05d9\u05e8\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u05dd \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05bb\u05e2\u05b7 \u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d0 \u05e2\u05b9\u05d1\u05b5\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b0\u05e4\u05b8\u05e0\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05db\u05bc\u05b7\u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d3\u05bc\u05b4\u05d1\u05bc\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4) indicating the people\u2019s role (stepping out in faith) is coupled to God\u2019s role in taking the land.\u00a0 If we step out to make the initial effort in faith towards repentance, no matter how feeble, God receives the effort with joy and in His power He works miracles.<\/p>\n<p>The Lord said, \u05d5\u05b4\u05d9\u05e8\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u05dd \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05bb\u05e2\u05b7 \u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d0 \u05e2\u05b9\u05d1\u05b5\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b0\u05e4\u05b8\u05e0\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05db\u05bc\u05b7\u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d3\u05bc\u05b4\u05d1\u05bc\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cJoshua (the Lord\u2019s Salvation) will cross ahead of you according to the word of the Lord.\u201d<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 The Aramaic translation (Targum Onkelos) says that the <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cMemra\u201d<\/span><\/em> (\u05de\u05b5\u05d9\u05de\u05b0\u05e8\u05b5\u05d4\u05bc) the Word of the Lord God, He will cross over before you (\u05d9\u05b5\u05e2\u05b4\u05d1\u05b7\u05e8 \u05e7\u05b3\u05d3\u05b8\u05de\u05b8\u05da\u05b0 \u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d0).\u00a0 The Aramaic translation tells us that God\u2019s Word goes before us as both a deliverer and savior.\u00a0 Based upon these things,\u00a0 the Torah is describing Yehoshua (\u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05bb\u05e2\u05b7, Joshua) is a type of Messiah for the children of Israel.\u00a0 Appropriately, Joshua\u2019s name (Yehoshua, \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05bb\u05e2\u05b7) means <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cSalvation\u201d<\/span><\/em> indicating his role in going with the people into the land and bringing them into their inheritance (\u05db\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u05d1\u05d5\u05b9\u05d0 \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05d4\u05b8\u05e2\u05b8\u05dd \u05d4\u05b7\u05d6\u05bc\u05b6\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc-\u05d4\u05b8\u05d0\u05b8\u05e8\u05b6\u05e5 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05e0\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b7\u05e2 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05dc\u05b7\u05d0\u05b2\u05d1\u05b9\u05ea\u05b8\u05dd).\u00a0 Moshe calling out to salvation (\u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0 \u05de\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05d4 \u05dc\u05b4\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05bb\u05e2\u05b7), draws in a deeper context with regard to the manner in which we are to live.\u00a0 The point is in order to be a true child of Abraham, one needs have the Word of God on the inside in order to sustain and support us like the Lord says to Joshua \u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b5\u05d9\u05de\u05b0\u05e8\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d1\u05b0\u05e1\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05d3\u05b8\u05da\u05b0 \u201cMy Word will sustain you,\u201d according to the Aramaic Targum.\u00a0 It is also important to note Yeshua\u2019s words, <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">John 15:7 \u201cIf you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (NASB)<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 Yeshua is speaking of abiding in Him, and His words abiding in us.\u00a0 Remember last week\u2019s study in Parashat Nitzavim, the Torah teaches us to remember, to repent, to turn, and to obey.\u00a0 These are the concepts that are found within Yeshua\u2019s words of hearing, abiding, and keeping His word in our hearts.\u00a0 It is interesting to see the parallel here in Parashat Vayelech the parallel to all of these things, that Joshua whose name means <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cthe Lord\u2019s salvation,\u201d<\/span><\/em> will be sustained by God\u2019s Memra (His Word).\u00a0 In addition, the Torah principle that Yeshua is teaching in <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">John 8:31-34<\/span><\/em>, is about the living Word of God (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">John 1:1-14<\/span><\/em>), the light of the world (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">John 8:12<\/span><\/em>), the Lord\u2019s Salvation, His Messiah, and the abiding truth of God\u2019s word that governs our hearts and our lives.\u00a0 Keeping God\u2019s word close to the heart is the point of remembering what the Lord has done so that we may live in a state of repentance before the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>The keeping of God\u2019s word close to the heart is very important, and is significant enough for the rabbis to discuss the topic.\u00a0 The rabbinic commentary on this week\u2019s Torah portion has the following to say concerning keeping the word of God close to the heart.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Sefer HaChinukh 613:1<\/span><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> For each person to write a Torah scroll for oneself &#8211; we have been commanded for each person in Israel to own a Torah scroll&#8230; Among the roots of this mitzvah, it is because it is well-known among people that they do everything according to that which they find prepared for themselves, and therefore God commanded us, each and every one of the Children of Israel, to have a Torah scroll prepared and available to him, so that he can read it always and will not have to go looking for it at his friend\u2019s house.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>\u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 \u05d4\u05d7\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5\u05da \u05ea\u05e8\u05d9\u05f4\u05d2:\u05d0\u05f3<\/strong><br \/>\n(\u05d0) \u05dc\u05db\u05ea\u05d1 \u05db\u05dc \u05d0\u05d7\u05d3 \u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 \u05ea\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4 \u05dc\u05e2\u05e6\u05de\u05d5 &#8211; \u05e9\u05e0\u05e6\u05d8\u05d5\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5 \u05dc\u05d4\u05d9\u05d5\u05ea \u05dc\u05db\u05dc \u05d0\u05d9\u05e9 \u05de\u05d9\u05e9\u05e8\u05d0\u05dc \u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 \u05ea\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4&#8230; \u05de\u05e9\u05e8\u05e9\u05d9 \u05d4\u05de\u05e6\u05d5\u05d4, \u05dc\u05e4\u05d9 \u05e9\u05d9\u05d3\u05d5\u05e2 \u05d1\u05d1\u05e0\u05d9 \u05d0\u05d3\u05dd \u05e9\u05d4\u05dd \u05e2\u05d5\u05e9\u05d9\u05df \u05db\u05dc \u05d3\u05d1\u05e8\u05d9\u05d4\u05dd \u05dc\u05e4\u05d9 \u05d4\u05d4\u05db\u05e0\u05d4 \u05d4\u05e0\u05de\u05e6\u05d0\u05ea \u05dc\u05d4\u05dd, \u05d5\u05e2\u05dc \u05db\u05df \u05e6\u05d5\u05e0\u05d5 \u05d1\u05e8\u05d5\u05da \u05d4\u05d5\u05d0 \u05dc\u05d4\u05d9\u05d5\u05ea \u05dc\u05db\u05dc \u05d0\u05d7\u05d3 \u05d5\u05d0\u05d7\u05d3 \u05de\u05d1\u05e0\u05d9 \u05d9\u05e9\u05e8\u05d0\u05dc \u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 \u05ea\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4 \u05de\u05d5\u05db\u05df \u05d0\u05e6\u05dc\u05d5 \u05e9\u05d9\u05d5\u05db\u05dc \u05dc\u05e7\u05e8\u05d5\u05ea \u05d1\u05d5 \u05ea\u05de\u05d9\u05d3 \u05d5\u05dc\u05d0 \u05d9\u05e6\u05d8\u05e8\u05da \u05dc\u05dc\u05db\u05ea \u05d0\u05d7\u05e8\u05d9\u05d5 \u05dc\u05d1\u05d9\u05ea \u05d7\u05d1\u05e8\u05d5.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Arbaah Turim 2:270:2<\/span><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> My master, my father, the Ro\u201dsh, of blessed memory, wrote that this was written only for the earlier generations, who would write a Torah scroll and learn from it. But nowadays, when we write a Torah scroll and place it in the synagogue to read from it publicly, it is a positive mitzvah incumbent on all Jews who have the means to do so to write volumes of the Torah, and Mishnah, and Gemara, and their commentaries, and to read from them &#8211; him, and his sons. For the mitzvah of writing a Torah is in order to learn from it, as it says: (Deut. 31:19) \u201cand teach it to the people of Israel, place it in their mouths.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>\u05d0\u05e8\u05d1\u05e2\u05d4 \u05d8\u05d5\u05e8\u05d9\u05dd \u05d1\u05f3:\u05e2\u05f4\u05e8:\u05d1\u05f3<\/strong><br \/>\n(\u05d1) \u05d5\u05db\u05ea\u05d1 \u05d0\u05d3\u05d5\u05e0\u05d9 \u05d0\u05d1\u05d9 \u05d4\u05e8\u05d0\u201d\u05e9 \u05d6\u201d\u05dc \u05e9\u05d6\u05d4 \u05dc\u05d0 \u05e0\u05d0\u05de\u05e8 \u05d0\u05dc\u05d0 \u05dc\u05d3\u05d5\u05e8\u05d5\u05ea \u05d4\u05e8\u05d0\u05e9\u05d5\u05e0\u05d9\u05dd \u05e9\u05d4\u05d9\u05d5 \u05db\u05d5\u05ea\u05d1\u05d9\u05df \u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 \u05ea\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4 \u05d5\u05dc\u05d5\u05de\u05d3\u05d9\u05dd \u05d1\u05d4 \u05d0\u05d1\u05dc \u05d4\u05d0\u05d9\u05d3\u05e0\u05d0 \u05e9\u05db\u05d5\u05ea\u05d1\u05d9\u05df \u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 \u05ea\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4 \u05d5\u05de\u05e0\u05d9\u05d7\u05d9\u05dd \u05d0\u05d5\u05ea\u05d5 \u05d1\u05d1\u05d9\u05ea \u05d4\u05db\u05e0\u05e1\u05ea \u05dc\u05e7\u05e8\u05d5\u05ea \u05d1\u05d4\u05dd \u05d1\u05e8\u05d1\u05d9\u05dd \u05de\u05e6\u05d5\u05ea \u05e2\u05e9\u05d4 \u05e2\u05dc \u05db\u05dc \u05d9\u05e9\u05e8\u05d0\u05dc \u05d0\u05e9\u05e8 \u05d9\u05d3\u05d5 \u05de\u05e9\u05d2\u05ea \u05dc\u05db\u05ea\u05d5\u05d1 \u05d7\u05de\u05e9\u05d4 \u05d7\u05d5\u05de\u05e9\u05d9 \u05d4\u05ea\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4 \u05d5\u05de\u05e9\u05e0\u05d4 \u05d5\u05d2\u05de\u05e8\u05d0 \u05d5\u05e4\u05d9\u05e8\u05d5\u05e9\u05d9\u05d4\u05dd \u05dc\u05d4\u05d2\u05d5\u05ea \u05d1\u05d4\u05df \u05d4\u05d5\u05d0 \u05d5\u05d1\u05e0\u05d9\u05d5 \u05db\u05d9 \u05de\u05e6\u05d5\u05ea \u05db\u05ea\u05d9\u05d1\u05ea \u05d4\u05ea\u05d5\u05e8\u05d4 \u05d4\u05d9\u05d0 \u05db\u05d3\u05d9 \u05dc\u05dc\u05de\u05d5\u05d3 \u05d1\u05d4 \u05d3\u05db\u05ea\u05d9\u05d1 (\u05d3\u05d1\u05e8\u05d9\u05dd \u05dc\u05d0: \u05d9\u05d8) \u05d5\u05dc\u05de\u05d3\u05d4 \u05d0\u05ea \u05d1\u05e0\u05d9 \u05d9\u05e9\u05e8\u05d0\u05dc \u05e9\u05d9\u05de\u05d4 \u05d1\u05e4\u05d9\u05d4\u05dd<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The rabbis consider the 613th mitzvah of the Torah as an obligation for everyone, that all of us needs to write a Torah scroll (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 31:19<\/span><\/em>) <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cAnd now, write for yourselves this song, and teach it to the Children of Israel. Place it into their mouths, in order that this song will be for Me as a witness for the children of Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 Rashi understands this command only to write the Torah portion that immediately follows, Parashat Ha\u2019azinu, whereas the <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Talmud Bavli Nedarim 38a<\/span><\/em> understands the command as referring to writing the entire Torah.\u00a0 Maimonides (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Rambam, Laws of Sefer Torah 7:1<\/span><\/em>) however explains that although the word \u201csong\u201d in the verse is referring to Parashat Ha\u2019azinu, it is forbidden to write only a single portion of the Torah on a scroll (see <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Talmud Bavli Gittin 60a<\/span><\/em>), it is therefore interpreted that this is an obligation for God\u2019s people to write the entire Torah, a copy for themselves.\u00a0 This command is emphasized in the mitzvah for a king to write a \u201csecond\u201d Torah scroll for himself. (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 17:18<\/span><\/em>)\u00a0 Judaism also understands and interprets this verse to mean that in addition to the Torah scroll which he must write as everyone else does, the king also needs to write a second one which he will then carry with him and read from daily. (<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Maimonides, Laws of Kings 3:1<\/em><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>It is interesting to note historically we don\u2019t find any record that the Torah was produced by the hundreds or thousands, one for each person in Israel.\u00a0 We also do not find historically that many people actually commissioned the writing of their own scrolls either. The point of the command on writing the scroll is to read from it and learn from it, to keep the word of God close to the heart so that one would always remember what the Lord has done for His people.<\/p>\n<p>The most significant aspect of this weeks Torah Portion, Parashat Vayelech, is to be prepared in this life for the service to the Lord God in heaven.\u00a0 In the previous studies, we have discussed the importance of being joyful in the Lord, in His word (the commands), in our lives, by the work of our hands, and to recognize that it is the Lord God in heaven who gives us all things (See Parashat Re\u2019eh).\u00a0 In this week\u2019s portion we are being instructed to remain faithful in our walk before the Lord.\u00a0 The Torah is not simply a history book to be read, but a living document to be applied to our lives.\u00a0 In Parashat Bo, the Lord brought great miracles to deliver Israel with a mighty hand from bondage.\u00a0 In a similar manner, the Lord God our Father in heaven performed the greatest miracle of all, the provision and sending forth of His salvation before us, by raising Yeshua the Messiah from the grave showing Him to be victorious over death.\u00a0 As a result, we remember, we believe, we repent, and we turn from sin by the power of God who changes us from the inside out.\u00a0 For these things are can celebrate and rejoice before God because of His Son who had gone forth before us leading the way.\u00a0 He led the way being obedient to the Father, and in a similar manner, we are called to follow in His footsteps (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1 Peter 2:21<\/span><\/em>).\u00a0 Remember, believe and Praise His Name because He has delivered us from death unto life, from servitude to freedom, from bondage to redemption.\u00a0 What a wonderful and awesome God we serve! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/BTT_Parashat-Vayelech-2015.pdf\">BTT_Parashat Vayelech-2015<\/a>  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[youtube url=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WQl9I6VMGig&amp;feature=youtu.be&#8221;] In this week\u2019s reading from Parashat Vayelech (Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 31:1-31:30), Moshe is explaining to the people the blessings and the curses that will come if they do not love and obey.
