{"id":2579,"date":"2013-10-20T12:02:54","date_gmt":"2013-10-20T12:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/?p=2579"},"modified":"2013-10-20T12:02:54","modified_gmt":"2013-10-20T12:02:54","slug":"bits-of-torah-truths-parashat-chayei-sarah-everything-we-do-is-spiritual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/bits-of-torah-truths-parashat-chayei-sarah-everything-we-do-is-spiritual\/","title":{"rendered":"Bits of Torah Truths, Parashat Chayei Sarah, Everything we do is Spiritual"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weeks reading is from Parashat Chayei Sarah (<em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 23:1-25:18<\/em>).\u00a0 This week\u2019s reading is relatively short and may be outlined in the following way, (i) Sarah Abraham\u2019s wife dies (<em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 23:1-3<\/em>), (ii) Abraham bargains for a piece of land from the sons of Heth to bury his wife (<em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 23:4-20<\/em>), (iii) Abraham sends his servant to find a wife for Isaac (<em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 24:1-4<\/em>), (iv) Eleazar meets Rebecca at the watering spring (<em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 24:11-21<\/em>), (v) Abraham marries Keturah (<em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 25:1-6<\/em>), and (vi) Abraham dies (<em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 25:7-8<\/em>).\u00a0 It is interesting to note how Abraham acted righteously before the people living in Eretz Canaan, by acting honestly to purchase of a piece of land to bury his wife.\u00a0 We read that Eleazar (<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b4\u05d9\u05e2\u05b6\u05d6\u05b6\u05e8<\/span>, <em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 15:2<\/em>) had faith in the God of Abraham to help him in his task to find a wife for Isaac.\u00a0 The name <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b4\u05d9\u05e2\u05b6\u05d6\u05b6\u05e8<\/span> consists of two words, <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b4\u05d9<\/span> meaning <em>\u201cmy God\u201d<\/em> and <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05e2\u05b6\u05d6\u05b6\u05e8<\/span> meaning <em>\u201chelps;\u201d<\/em> thus, Eleazar means <em>\u201cmy God helps.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 Eleazar realized the importance of his name, the God of Abraham is mighty, and will help him in his task to find a wife for Isaac.\u00a0 Eleazar prays saying <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d4\u05b4\u05e0\u05bc\u05b5\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b8\u05e0\u05b9\u05db\u05b4\u05d9 \u05e0\u05b4\u05e6\u05bc\u05b8\u05d1 \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc-\u05e2\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05d4\u05b7\u05de\u05bc\u05b8\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd \u05d5\u05b0\u05d4\u05b8\u05d9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d4\u05b8\u05e2\u05b7\u05dc\u05b0\u05de\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d4\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b9\u05e6\u05b5\u05d0\u05ea \u05dc\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05d0\u05b9\u05d1 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b8\u05de\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b5\u05dc\u05b6\u05d9\u05d4\u05b8 \u05d4\u05b7\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05e7\u05b4\u05d9\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9-\u05e0\u05b8\u05d0 \u05de\u05b0\u05e2\u05b7\u05d8-\u05de\u05b7\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd \u05de\u05b4\u05db\u05bc\u05b7\u05d3\u05bc\u05b5\u05da\u05b0<\/span> <em>\u201cbehold, I am standing by the spring, and may it be that the maiden who comes out to draw, and to whom I say, Please let me drink a little water from your jar;\u201d<\/em> in <em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 24:43<\/em>.\u00a0 As a result, God prepared the minds and lives of those involved for the selection of Isaac\u2019s wife and allowed everything to occur in the proper order so that Eleazar would know that he had found God\u2019s choice for Isaac.\u00a0 Can this happen today for those who trust and obey God?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>\u05db\u05ea\u05d1\u05d9 \u05d4\u05e7\u05d5\u05d3\u05e9 \/ The Holy Scriptures<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; 24:43 behold, I am standing by the spring, and may it be that the maiden who comes out to draw, and to whom I say, \u2018Please let me drink a little water from your jar\u2019; 24:44 and she will say to me, \u2018You drink, and I will draw for your camels also\u2019; let her be the woman whom the Lord has appointed for my master\u2019s son.\u2019\u00a0 24:45 \u2018Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder, and went down to the spring and drew, and I said to her, \u2018Please let me drink.\u2019\u00a0 24:46 \u2018She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder, and said, \u2018Drink, and I will water your camels also\u2019; so I drank, and she watered the camels also.\u00a0 (NASB)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Abraham made Eleazar swear never to take his son Isaac back to the land he had come from, and not to take a wife from the daughters of the Canaanites (<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b7\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05e2\u05b2\u05da\u05b8 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b7\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d4\u05b7\u05e9\u05bc\u05c1\u05b8\u05de\u05b7\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd \u05d5\u05b5\u05d0\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d4\u05b8\u05d0\u05b8\u05e8\u05b6\u05e5 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05ea\u05b4\u05e7\u05bc\u05b7\u05d7 \u05d0\u05b4\u05e9\u05bc\u05c1\u05b8\u05d4 \u05dc\u05b4\u05d1\u05b0\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05de\u05b4\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e0\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea \u05d4\u05b7\u05db\u05bc\u05b0\u05e0\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b8\u05e0\u05b9\u05db\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d9\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05b5\u05d1 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e7\u05b4\u05e8\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9<\/span>).\u00a0 When Eleazar arrives at the spring (<em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 24:13-14<\/em>) he speaks to the Lord in prayer asking the Lord to help him to find a wife for Isaac in a way that would ensure he would be able to recognize the woman that God has chosen.\u00a0 Eleazar says in <em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 24:14<\/em> <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d5\u05b0\u05d4\u05b8\u05d9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d4\u05b7\u05e0\u05bc\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05e8\u05b8 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b9\u05de\u05b7\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b5\u05dc\u05b6\u05d9\u05d4\u05b8 \u05d4\u05b7\u05d8\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9-\u05e0\u05b8\u05d0 \u05db\u05b7\u05d3\u05bc\u05b5\u05da\u05b0 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b6\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b6\u05d4 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b8\u05de\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d4 \u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05ea\u05b5\u05d4 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d2\u05b7\u05dd-\u05d2\u05bc\u05b0\u05de\u05b7\u05dc\u05bc\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05d0\u05b7\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05e7\u05b6\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b9\u05ea\u05b8\u05d4\u05bc \u05d4\u05b9\u05db\u05b7\u05d7\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8 \u05dc\u05b0\u05e2\u05b7\u05d1\u05b0\u05d3\u05bc\u05b0\u05da\u05b8 \u05dc\u05b0\u05d9\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05d7\u05b8\u05e7 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b8\u05d4\u05bc \u05d0\u05b5\u05d3\u05b7\u05e2 \u05db\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9-\u05e2\u05b8\u05e9\u05b4\u05b9\u05d9\u05ea\u05b8 \u05d7\u05b6\u05e1\u05b6\u05d3 \u05e2\u05b4\u05dd-\u05d0\u05b2\u05d3\u05b9\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9<\/span> <em>now may it be that the girl to whom I say, \u2018Please let down your jar so that I may drink,\u2019 and who answers, \u2018Drink, and I will water your camels also\u2019 may she be the one whom You have appointed for Your servant Isaac; and by this I will know that You have shown lovingkindness (grace, \u05d7\u05b6\u05e1\u05b6\u05d3) to my master.\u2019 (NASB)<\/em>\u00a0 The phrase <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b8\u05de\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d4 \u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05ea\u05b5\u05d4 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d2\u05b7\u05dd-\u05d2\u05bc\u05b0\u05de\u05b7\u05dc\u05bc\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8<\/span> <em>\u201cve\u2019amrah shetah ve\u2019gam-gemaleycha\u201d<\/em> reveals Eleazar\u2019s faith in the Lord that He (God) that will cause the woman to have the willingness to give water to Eleazar and to all of his camels.\u00a0 Eleazar, throughout his journey and the task that was set before him, trusted in the Lord to ensure that his journey was successful.\u00a0 Do we trust in God with such great faith today?\u00a0 According to these Scriptures, the Lord goes before us and prepares the path ahead so that we will have success.\u00a0 The Scriptures tells us that Eleazar knew of God\u2019s promise into Abraham when he said in <em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 24:27<\/em> (<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05db\u05d6\u00a0\u00a0 \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05de\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b8\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05da\u05b0 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b2\u05d3\u05b9\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b7\u05d1\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d4\u05b8\u05dd \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05e2\u05b8\u05d6\u05b7\u05d1 \u05d7\u05b7\u05e1\u05b0\u05d3\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05d5\u05b7\u05d0\u05b2\u05de\u05b4\u05ea\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05de\u05b5\u05e2\u05b4\u05dd \u05d0\u05b2\u05d3\u05b9\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b8\u05e0\u05b9\u05db\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b7\u05d3\u05bc\u05b6\u05e8\u05b6\u05da\u05b0 \u05e0\u05b8\u05d7\u05b7\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05d9\u05ea \u05d0\u05b2\u05d7\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b2\u05d3\u05b9\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9:<\/span>, <em>24:27 He said, \u2018Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His lovingkindness and His truth toward my master; as for me, the Lord has guided me in the way to the house of my master\u2019s brothers.\u2019 (NASB)<\/em>)\u00a0 In the Apostle Paul\u2019s letter to the Romans, he may have been thinking of Eleazar\u2019s journey and his faith and what the Lord had done for Eleazar, Abraham, and Isaac when he wrote <em>Romans 8:28<\/em>, saying \u03bf\u1f34\u03b4\u03b1\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd \u03b4\u1f72 \u1f45\u03c4\u03b9 \u03c4\u03bf\u1fd6\u03c2 \u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03c0\u1ff6\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd \u03c4\u1f78\u03bd \u03b8\u03b5\u1f78\u03bd \u03c0\u1f71\u03bd\u03c4\u03b1 \u03c3\u03c5\u03bd\u03b5\u03c1\u03b3\u03b5\u1fd6 \u03b5\u1f30\u03c2 \u1f00\u03b3\u03b1\u03b8\u1f79\u03bd, \u03c4\u03bf\u1fd6\u03c2 \u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u1f70 \u03c0\u03c1\u1f79\u03b8\u03b5\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd \u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c4\u03bf\u1fd6\u03c2 \u03bf\u1f56\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd, <em>8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
