The Torah consistently contrasts light with darkness as obedience versus rebellion, revelation versus blindness, and life versus destruction.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>&#8211; Torah parallels &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Genesis 1:3\u20134 \u2013 God separates light from darkness, establishing the symbolic pattern of divine order versus chaos.<\/li>\n<li>Exodus 13:21 \u2013 God leads Israel by a pillar of fire, a literal light guiding their walk.<\/li>\n<li>Exodus 25:31\u201340 \u2013 The menorah continually burns in the sanctuary, representing God\u2019s illuminating presence among His people.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 5:33 \u2013 Israel is commanded to walk in the way God has commanded, the Torah\u2019s equivalent of walking in the light.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 30:15\u201316 \u2013 Choosing life and good is choosing the illuminated path of God\u2019s commandments.<\/li>\n<li>Numbers 6:24\u201326 \u2013 God\u2019s face <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cshining\u201d<\/em><\/span> upon Israel symbolizes divine light bringing blessing and direction.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 32:4\u20135 \u2013 God is perfect and upright, but Israel becomes corrupt, showing the contrast between God\u2019s light and human darkness.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>&#8211; Context Synthesis &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Paul and John\u2019s exhortations to walk in the light stand firmly on the Torah\u2019s imagery of God as the source of light and His commands as the illuminated path. In the Torah, light represents God\u2019s presence, His revelation, and the clarity that comes from walking in His ways. Darkness represents rebellion, confusion, and separation from God. Paul and John extend this imagery by presenting Yeshua as the embodiment of God\u2019s light and the Spirit as the power enabling believers to live in that light.
