Mark 10:19, Luke 18:20; Romans 13:9) directly echoes the Torah\u2019s foundational prohibitions against false testimony, deceit, and corrupt judgment. Torah frames false witness as a destructive act that undermines justice, covenant faithfulness, and the integrity of the community.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>&#8211; Torah parallels &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Exodus 20:16 \u2014<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em> \u201cYou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor,\u201d<\/em><\/span> the ninth commandment establishing truthful testimony as essential to covenant life.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 5:20 \u2014 Reaffirmation of the prohibition against false witness in Moses\u2019 covenant renewal.<\/li>\n<li>Exodus 23:1\u20133 \u2014 Commands not to spread false reports, join hands with the wicked, or pervert justice through partiality.<\/li>\n<li>Exodus 23:6\u20137 \u2014 Israel is warned not to deny justice or condemn the innocent through false testimony.<\/li>\n<li>Leviticus 19:11\u201312 \u2014 Prohibition against lying, deceiving, and swearing falsely by God\u2019s name, linking false witness to profaning God Himself.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 19:15\u201321 \u2014 Laws requiring multiple witnesses and prescribing that false witnesses receive the penalty they intended for the innocent.<\/li>\n<li>Numbers 35:30 \u2014 Testimony in capital cases requires multiple witnesses, preventing false accusations from determining life and death.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 27:18 \u2014 Cursed is the one who misleads the blind, illustrating that deception in any form is condemned.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>&#8211; Context Synthesis &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Yeshua\u2019s reaffirmation of the command against false witness and Paul\u2019s inclusion of it in Romans 13:9 assume the Torah\u2019s broad vision of truthfulness as the foundation of justice and neighbor-love. In the Torah, false witness is not merely lying but an assault on the social and moral order God established. The NT continues this framework by calling believers to integrity, sincerity, and truthful speech as expressions of love that fulfill the law.
