Paul uses the Greek word prosphil\u0113 meaning that which calls forth love, that which is pleasing, admirable, or beautiful in God\u2019s eyes.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>&#8211; Torah Parallels to \u201cThink on Things Lovely\u201d (Philippians 4:8) &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Torah\u2019s Call to Love What God Loves. The Torah repeatedly commands Israel to set their affection on what God finds beautiful. Deut. 6:5, 10:12-13, 11:1.<\/li>\n<li>Torah\u2019s Vision of God\u2019s Commands as Beautiful and Delightful. The Torah does not present God\u2019s commands as burdens, but as beautiful, life\u2011giving, and desirable. Deut. 4:6\u20138, 30:11-14, 32:4.<\/li>\n<li>Torah\u2019s Emphasis on the Beauty of Holiness. Holiness in Torah is not merely moral, it is beautiful, set apart, attractive. Exod. 28:2, Lev. 19:2, Num. 6:22\u201327.<\/li>\n<li>Torah\u2019s Celebration of God\u2019s Goodness and Compassion. What God does is lovely, His mercy, His faithfulness, His covenant love. Exod. 34:6\u20137, Deut. 7:7\u20139, 32:10-12.<\/li>\n<li>Torah\u2019s Call to Delight in God\u2019s Blessings. The Torah repeatedly commands Israel to rejoice, celebrate, and delight in God\u2019s goodness, which is exactly the mental posture Paul describes. Deut. 12:7, 12, 18, 26:10-11, 16:14-15.<\/li>\n<li>Torah\u2019s Vision of Creation as Beautiful and Good. Paul\u2019s category<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em> \u201clovely\u201d<\/em><\/span> includes the beauty of God\u2019s creation, a theme that begins in Genesis. Gen. 1:31, 2:9, 2:18-24.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><strong>&#8211; Context Synthesis &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Torah \u2192 Paul on <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cLovely Thinking.\u201d<\/em><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Torah Themes<\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Love what God loves,<\/li>\n<li>God\u2019s commands are beautiful and admirable,<\/li>\n<li>Holiness is beautiful,<\/li>\n<li>God\u2019s character is lovely,<\/li>\n<li>God\u2019s blessings are delightful,<\/li>\n<li>Creation is good and pleasing,<\/li>\n<li>Covenant love is attractive and worthy of affection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>&#8211; Core Insight &#8211;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Paul\u2019s <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201clovely\u201d<\/em><\/span> is a direct continuation of Torah\u2019s call to delight in the beauty of God, His ways, His works, and His world.
