(NASB) <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ \">https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is quite foundational in the Torah: while Hebrews 13:3 explicitly commands believers to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cremember those who are in chains\u201d<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cthose who are mistreated,\u201d<\/em><\/span> the Torah embeds this ethic through identity\u2011memory, solidarity, and covenantal empathy. The Torah doesn\u2019t use the same wording, but it absolutely establishes the theological soil from which Hebrews grows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8211; Torah Parallels to \u201cRemember Those Who Suffer\u201d (Hebrews 13:3) &#8211; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cRemember that you were slaves in Egypt\u201d the core Torah foundation. Deut. 5:15, 15:15, 16:12, 24:18-22 This is the Torah\u2019s primary empathy\u2011forming command. Israel must remember their own suffering so they will identify with others who suffer. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Care for the stranger, widow, orphan Exo. 22:21-24, Deut. 10:18-19, 24:17-21 the Torah\u2019s empathy ethic. The Torah repeatedly commands Israel to protect those who are socially vulnerable. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cDo not harden your heart\u201d Deut. 15:7\u201311 the Torah\u2019s internal posture toward the suffering. The Torah doesn\u2019t just command action; it commands empathetic disposition. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Israel\u2019s leaders must bear the burdens of the people Exo. 32:32, Num. 11:11-17, Deut. 1:12 Moses models covenantal solidarity with the suffering. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Torah\u2019s laws of justice protect those who suffer injustice Exod. 23:6, Lev. 19:15, Deut. 24:14-15 The Torah repeatedly commands Israel to intervene for the oppressed. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Jubilee and Sabbath systems institutionalize care for the suffering Exod. 23:10-11, Lev. 25, Deut. 15 The Torah builds structural compassion into Israel\u2019s calendar. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8211; Context Synthesis &#8211; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember your suffering: Egypt slavery, Empathy through identity, Remember prisoners as though with them. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Care for the vulnerable, Stranger, widow, orphan, God identifies with the oppressed, Remember the mistreated. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soft\u2011hearted compassion Deut. 15 Internal empathy, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cAs though you yourselves were suffering.\u201d <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leaders bear burdens: Moses, Christlike solidarity, Covenant solidarity with sufferers. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Justice for the oppressed: Torah legal code, Protect the weak, Remember those mistreated. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Structural compassion: Jubilee, Sabbath, Institutional empathy, Ongoing remembrance of sufferers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8211; Core Insight &#8211; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Torah does not say <em>\u201cremember prisoners,\u201d<\/em> but it absolutely establishes the covenantal ethic behind Hebrews 13:3: Remember the suffering because you were once sufferers, because God hears the cries of the oppressed, and because covenant identity demands solidarity.
