In fact, the Torah doesn\u2019t just permit joy; it commands it in covenant life, worship, obedience, and remembrance. Paul and Jesus are drawing on a well\u2011established biblical pattern.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Torah Parallels to the Command to Rejoice (Matt. 5:12; Romans 15:10) &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Rejoicing as a Command in Covenant Worship Deuteronomy 12:7, 12, 18 Israel is repeatedly commanded to rejoice before the LORD at the central sanctuary.<\/li>\n<li>Rejoicing in the Feasts (Commanded Joy) Deuteronomy 16:11, 14\u201315 During Shavuot and Sukkot, Israel is explicitly commanded to rejoice.<\/li>\n<li>Rejoicing in God\u2019s Blessing and Provision Deuteronomy 26:10\u201311 (Firstfruits) Israel must rejoice in every good thing the LORD has given.<\/li>\n<li>Rejoicing in Obedience and Covenant Faithfulness Deuteronomy 28:47\u201348 A negative command: Israel is judged because they did not serve the LORD with joy.<\/li>\n<li>Rejoicing in God\u2019s Presence Numbers 10:10 Trumpets are blown over offerings <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cthat you may be remembered before the LORD.\u201d <\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Context Synthesis &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Joy as command Deut. 12; 16<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em> \u201cRejoice and be exceedingly glad\u201d \u201cRejoice, O Gentiles, with His people.\u201d <\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Joy in hardship Deut. 26 (remember Egypt) Joy in persecution, Joy in hope and unity.<\/li>\n<li>Joy as covenant identity Deut. 28:47 Joy marks true disciples, Joy marks covenant inclusion.<\/li>\n<li>Joy for all peoples Deut. 16 (stranger included) Kingdom open to all, Gentiles rejoice with Israel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Core Insight &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Torah establishes joy as a covenant obligation, not a suggestion. Jesus intensifies it by commanding joy even in persecution. Paul extends it by commanding Gentiles to join Israel in covenant joy.
