Both ideas have deep roots in the Torah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Torah Parallels to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cRebuke Works of Darkness\u201d<\/span> (Eph. 5:11) \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Expose Hidden Sin and Bring It to Light Deuteronomy 13:12\u201314 Investigate Hidden Wickedness. The Torah requires Israel to expose wrongdoing that is hidden <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cin one of your towns.\u201d <\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Rebuke Sin Directly Leviticus 19:17 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cYou shall surely rebuke your neighbor.\u201d<\/em><\/span> This is the Torah\u2019s foundational command for rebuke.<\/li>\n<li>Separate From Evil and Do Not Participate in It Deuteronomy 7:25\u201326 Do not bring abominable things into your house.<\/li>\n<li>Remove Evil From Your Midst Deuteronomy 17:7; 19:19; 21:21 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cSo you shall purge the evil from among you.\u201d <\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Do Not Imitate or Join in Wicked Practices Deuteronomy 18:9 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cYou shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.\u201d <\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Expose Falsehood and Deception: Exodus 23:1 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cDo not spread a false report.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Exodus 23:7 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cKeep far from a false matter.\u201d <\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Context Synthesis &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not participate in works of darkness Deut. 7:25\u201326; 18:9 Separation from evil.<\/li>\n<li>Expose\/rebuke hidden sin Deut. 13:12\u201314 Investigate and bring evil to light.<\/li>\n<li>Rebuke wrongdoing Lev. 19:17 Rebuke prevents sin and protects community.<\/li>\n<li>Purge evil from among you Deut. 17:7; 19:19; 21:21 Public exposure and removal of evil.<\/li>\n<li>Reject falsehood and corruption Exod. 23:1, 7 Do not join in or tolerate evil reports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Conclusion &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Paul\u2019s command in Ephesians 5:11 is a direct continuation of Torah ethics: Do not join in evil (Deut. 7:25\u201326; 18:9), Expose hidden wrongdoing (Deut. 13:12\u201314), Rebuke sin directly (Lev. 19:17), Purge evil from the community (Deut. 17:7; 19:19; 21:21), Reject falsehood and corruption (Exod. 23:1, 7). Paul is applying the Torah\u2019s judicial and communal purity principles to the moral life of the ekkl\u0113sia.
