It is a direct continuation of Torah\u2019s system for dealing with false testimony: Investigate false claims (Deut. 13; 19), Expose false witnesses (Deut. 19:16\u201319), Rebuke to restore (Lev. 19:17), Rebuke sharply when necessary (Deut. 17:12\u201313), Protect the community from corruption (Exod. 23:1\u20137). Paul is applying the Torah\u2019s judicial and communal ethics to the life of the ekkl\u0113sia.
