(NASB)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Paul\u2019s command in 1 Corinthians 5:13 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cPut away from among yourselves that wicked person\u201d<\/em><\/span> is directly rooted in Torah principles. The Torah repeatedly instructs us to purge evil from the covenant community to preserve holiness, justice, and covenant integrity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Torah Parallels to 1 Corinthians 5:13 &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Deuteronomy 13:5 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cThat prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death\u2026 so shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.\u201d<\/em><\/span> False prophets leading to idolatry must be removed from the community.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 17:7 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cSo shalt thou put away the evil from among you.\u201d<\/em> <\/span>Applied to idolaters; the community must purge those who corrupt covenant fidelity.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 19:19 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cThen shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother\u2026 so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.\u201d<\/em><\/span> False witnesses are to be judged and removed to protect justice.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 21:21 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cAll the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Applied to a rebellious son; the principle is communal removal of persistent wickedness.<\/li>\n<li>Deuteronomy 22:21\u201322 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cSo shalt thou put away evil from among you.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Sexual immorality is treated as covenant-breaking, requiring removal of the offender.<\/li>\n<li>Numbers 15:30\u201331 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cThe soul that doeth ought presumptuously\u2026 that soul shall be cut off from among his people.\u201d<\/em><\/span> High-handed sin results in expulsion from the covenant community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note the Thematic Connections:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Community Purity<\/span> \u2192 Torah emphasizes purging evil to preserve Israel\u2019s holiness; Paul applies this to the church.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Witness &amp; Justice<\/span> \u2192 Torah requires careful proof before removal; Paul echoes this principle elsewhere (cf. 1 Tim. 5:19).<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Covenant Integrity<\/span> \u2192 Torah removal protects the covenant; Paul\u2019s removal protects the body of Christ.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Holiness Standard<\/span> \u2192 Both contexts stress that tolerating wickedness corrupts the whole community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Torah repeatedly commands Israel to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cput away evil from among you\u201d<\/em><\/span> whether false prophets, idolaters, sexual offenders, or rebellious sons. Paul draws directly on this covenant principle, applying it to the church: wickedness must be confronted and removed to preserve holiness and integrity.
