Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you\u2014unless indeed you fail the test? (NASB) <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ \">https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2 Corinthians 13:5 we read: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cExamine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.\u201d<\/em><\/span> The concept is self-examination, testing whether one\u2019s life aligns with covenantal faith. While the Torah doesn\u2019t use that exact phrase, it does contain strong parallels in the form of covenantal self-testing, reflection, and proving loyalty to God.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211; Torah Parallels to \u201cTest Yourself\u201d &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Examine Your Heart and Motives<\/span> Deuteronomy 8:2 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cThe LORD your God led you these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Israel undergoes testing, but the implication is that they must also recognize what is in their own hearts.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Circumcision of the Heart<\/span> Deuteronomy 10:16 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cCircumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart and be no longer stubborn.\u201d<\/em><\/span> A call to inner self-examination and transformation, not just outward ritual.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Choose Life<\/span> Deuteronomy 30:19 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cI have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, choose life\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span> This requires self-testing: Am I walking in the way of life or drifting toward death?<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Self-Examination in Worship<\/span> Leviticus 26:40-42 Israel is told to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cconfess their iniquity\u201d<\/em><\/span> and examine themselves so that God may restore them. This is covenantal self-testing through repentance. Moses\u2019 Charge Numbers 16:5 Moses says to Korah and his followers: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cIn the morning the LORD will show who is His, and who is holy.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Though framed as God\u2019s test, it implicitly challenges them to examine themselves before confronting God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note how the NT provides a condensed synthesis of the Torah:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Deut. 8:2 \u2192 God tests to reveal what\u2019s in the heart.<\/li>\n<li>Deut. 10:16 \u2192 Inner circumcision (self-examination).<\/li>\n<li>Deut. 30:19 \u2192 Choosing life requires reflection.<\/li>\n<li>Lev. 26:40 \u2192 Confession as self-testing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Paul\u2019s exhortation in 2 Cor. 13:5 to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201ctest yourselves\u201d<\/em> <\/span>is not foreign to Torah thought. The Torah provides the covenantal framework of self-examination that Paul later applies to the Corinthian believers.
