Drunkenness leads to shame and disorder. This is the first biblical example of intoxication showing dishonor and vulnerability. The Torah ties drunkenness to impaired judgment, unfit for God\u2019s service. Numbers 6:1\u20134 The Nazarite vow includes abstaining from wine and strong drink which is a reference to how separation unto God requires sobriety. Deuteronomy 21:18\u201321 The rebellious son is described as a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cglutton and drunkard.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Drunkenness is tied to rebellion and judgment, so the Torah explicitly condemns riotous, drunken living as covenant-breaking behavior. Paul\u2019s exhortation in Romans 13:13 is not a new ethic but a Torah-centered ethic reframed in the Messiah. He\u2019s drawing on the same covenantal logic: God\u2019s people are to be sober, holy, and distinct from the nations whose revelry leads to shame and destruction.
