Leviticus 19:2 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cYou shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Sets the standard of conduct: holiness excludes riotous, chaotic behavior. Leviticus 19:29 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cDo not profane your daughter to make her a harlot, lest the land fall into harlotry and the land become full of wickedness.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Directly parallels Paul\u2019s warning against <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cchambering and wantonness.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Numbers 11:4\u20136, 33\u201334 The people\u2019s craving for meat refers to their uncontrolled desire that led to judgment, echoing Paul\u2019s caution against fleshly excess. Deuteronomy 21:18\u201321 Gluttony, drunkenness, rebellion, the Torah explicitly condemns riotous living as worthy of discipline and judgment. Deuteronomy 32:15 is a poetic picture of indulgence leading to arrogance and disorder. We note how the Torah repeatedly warns against drunkenness and gluttony (e.g., the rebellious son, Numbers 11 cravings). God\u2019s people are called to be a holy nation, set apart, not given to the chaotic revelry of surrounding nations. Paul\u2019s exhortation resonates with Torah\u2019s call to holiness and covenant faithfulness, which is always framed as walking in God\u2019s light (cf. Deut. 30:15\u201320). Paul\u2019s exhortation in Romans 13:13 is not a new ethic but a Torah-rooted ethic reframed in the Messiah. He\u2019s essentially saying: Live as covenant people in the light, not as those who fall into the indulgence, rebellion, and chaos that Torah already condemned.
