There are foundational themes that parallel the concept of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201clooking to Jesus\u201d<\/em><\/span> as described in Hebrews 12:2, namely, focusing on the Messiah for guidance, salvation, and covenantal relationship. Here are a few key parallels &#8211; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Parallels in the Torah to \u201cLooking to Jesus\u201d<\/span> &#8211; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Looking to God for Salvation<\/span> &#8211; Exodus 14:13 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cDo not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Moses urged Israel to fix their eyes on God&#8217;s power to save them from Egypt. We note God\u2019s salvation is provided in the sacrifice of Jesus, this is how Hebrews calls believers to look to Jesus as the source of salvation. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Bronze Serpent<\/span> &#8211; Numbers 21:8\u20139, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cMake a snake and put it on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.\u201d<\/em><\/span> This is one of the clearest Torah foreshadowing of the NT concept. Jesus himself references this in John 3:14, comparing the serpent lifted in the wilderness to his own crucifixion, both requiring faith and a focused gaze for healing and life. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Shema<\/span> &#8211; Deuteronomy 6:4\u20135, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cHear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.\u201d<\/em><\/span> This call to wholehearted devotion mirrors the Hebrews 12:2 exhortation to fix our eyes on Jesus with undivided attention and faith. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Moses as a Mediator<\/span> &#8211; Moses often stood between God and the people, interceding and delivering God&#8217;s word (e.g., Exodus 32:30\u201332). Hebrews presents Jesus as the ultimate mediator, the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cauthor and finisher of our faith,\u201d<\/em><\/span> fulfilling and surpassing Moses\u2019 role.
