(NASB) <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ \">https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several Torah passages that parallel the spiritual wakefulness urged in 1 Thessalonians 5:6 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201clet us not sleep, as others do, but let us be alert and sober.\u201d<\/em><\/span> While Paul\u2019s language is distinctly eschatological and framed in terms of Christ\u2019s return, the underlying call to vigilance, moral clarity, and covenantal attentiveness is deeply rooted in the Torah. &#8211; <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Torah Parallels to Spiritual Wakefulness<\/span> &#8211; Genesis 4:7 <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cSin is crouching at the door\u2026 but you must master it.\u201d<\/span><\/em> Moral vigilance, Cain is warned to remain alert to sin\u2019s presence, an early call to spiritual awareness and self-governance. Exodus 12:11 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cEat it in haste\u2026 it is the LORD\u2019s Passover.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Readiness for divine intervention, Israel is commanded to be prepared, awake, and dressed for departure\u2026 mirrors Paul\u2019s call to readiness for the Day of the Lord. Exodus 19:10\u201311 <em>\u201cBe ready for the third day\u2026\u201d<\/em> relates to sanctification and anticipation before Sinai, Israel must prepare and remain alert which echoes the sober watchfulness Paul urges. Deuteronomy 6:6\u20137 The Shema commands continual spiritual attentiveness, day and night, opposite of spiritual sleep. Deuteronomy 32:29 Moses laments Israel\u2019s failure to perceive which is akin to Paul\u2019s concern about spiritual slumber. While the metaphor of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201csleep\u201d<\/em><\/span> isn\u2019t used as explicitly in the Torah as in Paul\u2019s letters, the concept of spiritual dullness vs. alertness is foundational. The Torah repeatedly calls Israel to remember, to guard, to prepare, and to respond never to drift passively.
