This incident is foundational to Paul\u2019s argument, and it\u2019s rich with Torah parallels. Exodus 20:14 \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Seventh Commandment<\/span> though technically referring to marital infidelity, this commandment is the ethical backbone against sexual immorality in Torah law. Leviticus 18 \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Laws of Sexual Purity<\/span> this chapter outlines prohibited sexual relationships, emphasizing holiness and separation from the practices of Egypt and Canaan. Deuteronomy 23:17\u201318 \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Cult Prostitution Forbidden<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cThere shall be no cult prostitute of the daughters of Israel\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span> This law directly opposes the kind of sexual idolatry seen in Numbers 25. Paul\u2019s use of this Torah episode isn\u2019t just historical, it\u2019s theological. He\u2019s saying: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cDon\u2019t repeat the mistakes of your spiritual ancestors. Their physical acts had spiritual consequences.\u201d<\/em><\/span> It\u2019s a sobering reminder that immorality isn\u2019t just personal, it\u2019s communal and covenantal.
