Deuteronomy 15:7\u201310 &#8211; Secret Generosity Toward the Poor &#8211; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cYou shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother\u2026 You shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to him\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span> Note here that giving is commanded without hesitation or self-interest. The focus is on the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cinternal disposition,\u201d<\/em><\/span> not public display. The Torah emphasizes <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cquiet obedience\u201d<\/span><\/em> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201ccompassionate action,\u201d<\/em><\/span> not performative charity. 2. Exodus 25:2 &#8211; Voluntary Offerings from the Heart &#8211; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cSpeak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From every man whose heart prompts him to give\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span> Giving is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cvoluntary and heartfelt,\u201d<\/em><\/span> not coerced or done for show. The offering is between the giver and God, mirroring the secrecy and sincerity Jesus emphasizes. Notice how Matthew 6:3 may reflect a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cHebrew idiom\u201d<\/em><\/span> or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cSemitic hyperbole\u201d<\/em><\/span> a vivid way to say, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201ckeep your giving private.\u201d<\/em><\/span> In Jewish tradition, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201canonymous charity\u201d<\/em><\/span> (matan beseter) is considered the highest form of giving, as taught by Maimonides centuries later.
