(NASB) <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ \">https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What we note about this command <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cLet Everyone refrain tongue from evil, and lips from guile\u201d<\/em><\/span> (1 Peter 3:10) is that this is actually quoting Psalm 34:13, which itself reflects deep Torah-rooted ethics. While the exact phrase <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201crefrain tongue from evil\u201d<\/em> <\/span>isn\u2019t found verbatim in the Torah, the concept of guarding speech and avoiding deceit is richly embedded in its moral and covenantal framework. For example, Avoiding False Witness and Deceit (Exodus 20:16; Leviticus 19:11) we are told not to bear false witness and do not steal or deal falsely or lie with one another. These commandments directly prohibit deceptive speech, aligning with the call to avoid guile. Also, Guarding the Tongue as a Moral Imperative (Leviticus 19:16) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cYou shall not go around as a slanderer among your people.\u201d<\/em><\/span> This verse condemns lashon hara (evil speech), a concept later expanded in rabbinic literature but rooted in Torah ethics. We also read how Speech is a Reflection of Covenant Faithfulness (Deuteronomy 23:23) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cYou shall be careful to perform what has passed your lips\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span> This emphasizes truthfulness and integrity in speech, especially in vows and commitments. This is how the Torah underscores the power and responsibility of the tongue.
