But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; (NASB) <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ \">https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/category\/bits-of-torah-truths\/ <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notice how James 1:19 echoes several foundational principles found in the Torah, even if not phrased identically. Here&#8217;s how each part of that verse finds resonance in the Five Books of Moshe &#8211; Swift to Hear: In Exodus 19:5 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cNow therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span> The Hebrew word for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cobey\u201d<\/em><\/span> is shema, which also means <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201chear.\u201d<\/em><\/span> Listening is deeply tied to obedience in Torah language. In Deuteronomy 6:4\u20135 the Shema begins with a call to listen attentively \u2014 not just with ears, but with heart and soul. It\u2019s a posture of receptivity to divine instruction. Slow to Speak: In Leviticus 10:1\u20133 Nadab and Abihu offer <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cstrange fire\u201d<\/em><\/span> without divine instruction. God\u2019s response is severe, and Moses reminds Aaron to remain silent. This moment underscores the danger of speaking or acting presumptuously in sacred matters. In Numbers 12:1\u20138 Miriam and Aaron speak against Moses. God rebukes them, for speaking hastily, especially in judgment or criticism, leads to divine correction. Slow to Wrath: In Genesis 4:6\u20137 God warns Cain: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cWhy are you angry? \u2026 Sin is crouching at the door.\u201d<\/em><\/span> A direct caution against impulsive anger (wrath), showing its destructive potential. Note how in Exodus 34:6 when God reveals His character to Moses, He describes Himself as <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>\u201cslow to anger.\u201d<\/em><\/span> This divine trait is presented as a model for human behavior throughout the Torah and later writings. When James speaks on listening, restraint in speech, and temperance in emotion he is teaching Torah.
