(NASB)<\/em>\u00a0 It appears that Deuteronomy begins following the end of Israel\u2019s journey in the wilderness just prior to entering the Promised Land.\u00a0 Moshe speaks telling the people that the land the Lord swore to their fathers is before them to possess.\u00a0 Moshe recounts the things he had done choosing 12 men and sending them to spy out the land (<em>1:23-25<\/em>) and describe how the people were unwilling to go into the land (<em>1:26<\/em>).\u00a0 He then states, do not fear because <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05dc\u00a0 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b5\u05d9\u05db\u05b6\u05dd \u05d4\u05b7\u05d4\u05b9\u05dc\u05b5\u05da\u05b0 \u05dc\u05b4\u05e4\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9\u05db\u05b6\u05dd \u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d0 \u05d9\u05b4\u05dc\u05bc\u05b8\u05d7\u05b5\u05dd \u05dc\u05b8\u05db\u05b6\u05dd \u05db\u05bc\u05b0\u05db\u05b9\u05dc \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05e2\u05b8\u05e9\u05b8\u05b9\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b4\u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05db\u05b6\u05dd \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05de\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05e8\u05b7\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd \u05dc\u05b0\u05e2\u05b5\u05d9\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9\u05db\u05b6\u05dd:<\/span> <em>1:30 \u2018The Lord your God who goes before you will Himself fight on your behalf, just as He did for you in Egypt before your eyes, (NASB).<\/em>\u00a0 Moshe recounts how upon learning that they were going to remain in the wilderness for another 40 years they decided to go into the land and posses the land themselves.\u00a0 The Lord told them do not go because He is not in their midst, they will certainly be defeated (<em>1:41-45<\/em>).\u00a0 Following their defeat, the people set out for the wilderness by the path of the red sea, then the Lord commanded them saying they will pass through the land of their brother Esau (<em>2:1-12<\/em>).\u00a0 The Scriptures state it was 38 years until all of the men died from within the camp who rebelled against the Lord (<em>2:14-16<\/em>).\u00a0 Moshe describes the defeat of the king of Sihon and the possession of the land (<em>2:32-34<\/em>).\u00a0 It is written then that the King of Bashon was given into their hands for defeat (<em>3:1-11<\/em>).\u00a0 The Scriptures say in <em>Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 3:21 \u2018I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, \u2018Your eyes have seen all that the Lord your God has done to these two kings; so the Lord shall do to all the kingdoms into which you are about to cross.\u00a0 3:22 \u2018Do not fear them, for the Lord your God is the one fighting for you.\u2019 (NASB)<\/em>\u00a0 According to the Aramaic Targum we read <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05db\u05d1 \u05dc\u05b8\u05d0 \u05ea\u05b4\u05d3\u05b0\u05d7\u05b2\u05dc\u05d5\u05bc\u05df \u05de\u05b4\u05e0\u05bc\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05df \u05d0\u05b2\u05e8\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d9\u05b8 \u05d0\u05b3\u05dc\u05b8\u05d4\u05b2\u05db\u05d5\u05b9\u05df \u05de\u05b5\u05d9\u05de\u05b0\u05e8\u05b5\u05d4\u05bc \u05d9\u05b0\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9\u05d7\u05b7 \u05dc\u05b0\u05db\u05d5\u05b9\u05df:<\/span> <em>3:22 \u2018Do not fear them, for the Memra (Word) of the Lord your God is the one fighting for you.\u2019<\/em>\u00a0 Here the Word of God is that which goes forth and makes war with the nations.\u00a0 The Torah principle on God\u2019s Word going forth according to <em>Romans 8:3<\/em> says <em>8:3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh (NASB)<\/em>.\u00a0 The Word of God went forth and made atonement for our sins in Yeshua the Messiah!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05db\u05ea\u05d1\u05d9 \u05d4\u05e7\u05d5\u05d3\u05e9 \/ The Holy Scriptures<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: right;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 \u05d3\u05d1\u05e8\u05d9\u05dd \u05e4\u05e8\u05e7 \u05d0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05de\u05d0\u00a0\u00a0 \u05d5\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc | \u05d5\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05de\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc \u05d0\u05b5\u05dc\u05b7\u05d9 \u05d7\u05b8\u05d8\u05b8\u05d0\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc \u05dc\u05b7\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e0\u05b7\u05d7\u05b0\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc \u05e0\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05dc\u05b6\u05d4 \u05d5\u05b0\u05e0\u05b4\u05dc\u05b0\u05d7\u05b7\u05de\u05b0\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc \u05db\u05bc\u05b0\u05db\u05b9\u05dc \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8-\u05e6\u05b4\u05d5\u05bc\u05b8\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b5\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc \u05d5\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b7\u05d7\u05b0\u05d2\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc \u05d0\u05b4\u05d9\u05e9\u05c1 \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05db\u05bc\u05b0\u05dc\u05b5\u05d9 \u05de\u05b4\u05dc\u05b0\u05d7\u05b7\u05de\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05d5\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4\u05b4\u05d9\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc \u05dc\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05dc\u05b9\u05ea \u05d4\u05b8\u05d4\u05b8\u05e8\u05b8\u05d4: \u05de\u05d1\u00a0\u00a0 \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05de\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b5\u05dc\u05b7\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b1\u05de\u05b9\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b8\u05d4\u05b6\u05dd \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0 \u05ea\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05dc\u05d5\u05bc \u05d5\u05b0\u05dc\u05b9\u05d0 \u05ea\u05b4\u05dc\u05bc\u05b8\u05d7\u05b2\u05de\u05d5\u05bc \u05db\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b5\u05d9\u05e0\u05b6\u05e0\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e7\u05b4\u05e8\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05db\u05b6\u05dd \u05d5\u05b0\u05dc\u05b9\u05d0 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e0\u05bc\u05b8\u05d2\u05b0\u05e4\u05d5\u05bc \u05dc\u05b4\u05e4\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b9\u05d9\u05b0\u05d1\u05b5\u05d9\u05db\u05b6\u05dd:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 1:41-42<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em>1:41 \u2018Then you said to me, \u2018We have sinned against the Lord; we will indeed go up and fight, just as the Lord our God commanded us.\u2019 And every man of you girded on his weapons of war, and regarded it as easy to go up into the hill country. 1:42 \u2018And the Lord said to me, \u2018Say to them, \u2018Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you; otherwise you will be defeated before your enemies.\u2019\u2019 (NASB)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In this week\u2019s portion, we read the retelling of Israel\u2019s rebellion and decision to go against God\u2019s word to enter into the Promised Land and fight after they had rejected God\u2019s promise to their fathers.\u00a0 The Scriptures say <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05dc\u05b9\u05d0 \u05ea\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05dc\u05d5\u05bc \u05d5\u05b0\u05dc\u05b9\u05d0 \u05ea\u05b4\u05dc\u05bc\u05b8\u05d7\u05b2\u05de\u05d5\u05bc \u05db\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b5\u05d9\u05e0\u05b6\u05e0\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e7\u05b4\u05e8\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05db\u05b6\u05dd<\/span> <em>\u201cDo not go up nor fight, for I am not among you.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 It is interesting that Scripture says <em>\u201cdo not go because the Lord is not in their midst.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 Is it possible to reject the promise of God and continue to have the Lord dwell in our midst?\u00a0 King David said in <em>Tehillim \/ Psalms 22:4<\/em> <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d3\u00a0\u00a0 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4 \u05e7\u05b8\u05d3\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1 \u05d9\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05b5\u05d1 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b4\u05dc\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05b0\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc:<\/span> <em>22:3 Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. (NASB)<\/em>\u00a0 The key word in <em>Tehillim \/ Psalms 22:4<\/em> is <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d9\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05b5\u05d1<\/span> <em>\u201cyoshev\u201d<\/em> that is derived from the root word <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d9\u05e9\u05d1<\/span> <em>\u201cyashav\u201d<\/em> meaning to <em>\u201csit, remain, dwell.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 David says that God is Holy and that he sits, remains, dwells within the praises of Israel.\u00a0 Most modern translations translate <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d9\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05b5\u05d1<\/span> as<em> \u201centhroned\u201d<\/em> instead of <em>\u201cto dwell\u201d<\/em> or to <em>\u201cinhabit.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 The Hebrew word <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d9\u05d5\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05b5\u05d1<\/span> <em>\u201cyoshev\u201d<\/em> provides the sense of <em>\u201cdwell\u201d<\/em> or <em>\u201csit,\u201d<\/em> and God who is King and Lord is sitting upon their praises as it is translated to mean <em>\u201cbe enthroned\u201d<\/em> in the NASB translation.\u00a0 Dwelling upon the praises reminds us of how God is enthroned in his Temple on Zion in <em>Tehillim \/ Psalms 9:11, 29:10, 80:1<\/em> and in the prophecy of <em>Ezekiel 10:1<\/em>.\u00a0 Other Scriptures depict God as the victorious King, placing His people in the Promised Land by His mighty hands (<em>Shemot \/ Exodus 15:13-18, Tehillim \/ Psalms 24:7-10, 68:17-24, 132:7-14<\/em>).\u00a0 What is interesting about this week\u2019s reading is the people were told do not go up to fight the Amorites because the Lord is not in their midst.\u00a0 David said that <em>\u201cGod is holy dwelling in the praises of Israel.\u201d\u00a0<\/em> When rejecting the promise of God to go up and take the Land, the praises of the Lord were not heard amongst the people.\u00a0 The Lord dwells in our praises today because He is truly the One who is to be praised in all circumstances no matter what has happened or what is happening in the lives of His people.\u00a0 Israel sinned and their idea of repenting was to turn and go up to fight the Amorites against God\u2019s command.\u00a0 Because Israel\u2019s praise was not in the Lord, He did not go with them into battle.\u00a0 As we place our faith and trust in Yeshua the Messiah, not only do our hearts change, our lives are to <em>\u201cturn\u201d<\/em> in repentance also and we are set on a journey of living for God and to glorify His Name in all that we do.\u00a0 This comes full circle back to the Lord inhabiting our praises.\u00a0 Or very lives are to give testimony (praise) of God\u2019s work in faith, hope, and in action (deed).\u00a0 Similarly, David by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote of the Testimony of the Messiah to make atonement for our sins saying <em>\u201cthey have pierced his hands and feet,\u201d<\/em> (<em>Luke 23:33-34<\/em>)<em> \u201che can count all his bones,\u201d<\/em> and they <em>\u201cdivide his garments among them casting lots for his clothing.\u201d<\/em> (<em>John 19:24, Matthew 27:35, Mark 15:24, Luke 23:34<\/em>).\u00a0 Yeshua\u2019s life gave testimony (praise) of God\u2019s work in faith, hope, and in deed.\u00a0 Yeshua also said <em>\u201cwhatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.\u201d<\/em> (<em>Matthew 25:40, NASB<\/em>)\u00a0 At the judgment throne action gave testimony the sheep were truly children of the Most High God.\u00a0 Does your life in the messiah produce proof positive of faith in God\u2019s promises according to the Scriptures? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/BTT_Parashat-Devarim-2013.pdf\">BTT_Parashat Devarim-2013<\/a>  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This weeks reading is from Parashat Devarim (Devarim \/ Deuteronomy 1:1-3:22), the Scriptrues say 1:1 These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel across the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel and Laban and Hazeroth and Dizahab.
