One strong parallel is found in Leviticus 19:9-10, where God commands Israel to leave the edges of their fields and the gleanings of their harvest for the poor and the stranger. This teaches generosity and discourages hoarding wealth solely for oneself and also provides for the needy. Note also that the needy have to work to eat, if one does not work one does not eat! Another relevant passage is found in Deuteronomy 15:7-8, which instructs us to open their hands freely to our needy brothers and not harden their hearts when someone is in need. This reflects the idea that wealth should be used to uplift others rather than selfishly accumulated. Exodus\u00a022:25\u00a0also warns against charging excessive interest when lending to the poor, reinforcing the idea that financial dealings should be fair and considerate rather than exploitative.
