For example, in Deuteronomy 15:7-11, God commands His people to be open-handed and generous to the poor. These passages highlight the moral responsibility of each individual to care for the less fortunate and reflect the same spirit of sacrificial giving that John the Baptist calls for. Note also Leviticus 19:9-10 and Deuteronomy\u00a024:19-22. These Scriptures instruct farmers not to harvest their fields or vineyards completely but to leave the edges and what remains for the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the stranger. This provision reflects the Torah&#8217;s broader ethic of ensuring that the needs of the vulnerable are met through acts of charity and justice. Note also the Torah command to give tithes to support the Levites, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow in Deuteronomy\u00a014:28.29 further underscores the principle of sharing resources with those in need. These Torah principles show that the obligation to care for the needy is deeply rooted in the Torah. John the Baptist&#8217;s call to share with the poor in Luke\u00a03:11\u00a0directly echoes this ongoing Torah tradition. It reminds us that generosity is not optional but a fundamental aspect of living out faith and righteousness.
