For example, Deuteronomy 18:9-14 warns against engaging in practices of divination, sorcery, and other forms of idolatry, emphasizing the importance of remaining pure and faithful to God. Leviticus 19:31 states, “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God.” This verse instructs God’s people to avoid any form of spiritual impurity and darkness. Deuteronomy 7:25-26 states, “The images of their gods you are to burn in the fire. Do not covet the silver and gold on them, and do not take it for yourselves, or you will be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the LORD your God. Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Regard it as vile and utterly detest it, for it is set apart for destruction.” This passage warns against associating with or bringing elements of idolatry and evil into one’s life. These verses from the Torah emphasize the necessity of rejecting evil, impurity, and idolatry, and living a life that is in alignment with God’s commandments. This aligns with the message in Ephesians 5:11 to avoid participating in deeds of darkness and instead, live a life of righteousness and light.
