In the Torah, there are several passages that parallel this idea, emphasizing wholehearted devotion to God and His commandments. Deuteronomy 6:5 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” This verse commands total devotion to God, encompassing every aspect of one’s being. It underscores the importance of loving and serving God with complete dedication. Deuteronomy 10:12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,” This passage highlights the call to serve God with wholehearted obedience, love, and dedication, mirroring the NT call to give oneself wholly. Deuteronomy 30:10 “if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.” Here, the emphasis is on turning to God with complete commitment, reinforcing the idea of dedicating oneself fully to His commandments. These passages from the Torah emphasize the importance of wholehearted devotion to God, paralleling the NT exhortation to give oneself wholly to spiritual growth and commitment.
