For example, the story of Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife (Genesis 39:7-12). This story exemplifies the principle of avoiding youthful lusts. Joseph resists the advances of Potiphar’s wife and flees from temptation, demonstrating moral integrity and self-control. The Tenth Commandment (Exodus 20:17) “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” This commandment addresses the avoidance of covetous desires, which include youthful lusts. The Holiness Code (Leviticus 19:2) speaks about the call to holiness that includes avoiding sinful desires and behaviors, urging a life dedicated to purity and righteousness. Deuteronomy 6:5 from the Shema saying, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” This commandment encourages directing one’s desires and energies toward God, inherently involving the avoidance of youthful lusts that lead away from godly living. These Torah teachings emphasize self-control, moral integrity, and a focus on living a holy life, which aligns with the NT exhortation to flee from youthful lusts. The consistent biblical message across both the Torah and the NT is to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, steering clear of behaviors and desires that lead one astray from God’s path. This is how Paul taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!

Bits of Torah Truths – Torah Concept in the NT: Flee from Youthful Lusts – Episode 402 #torah #torahwisdom #torahtruth #torahforlife #torah4you #torahtruth 2 Timothy 2:22 2:22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
