This idea is rooted in various themes found in the Torah, emphasizing leadership, provision, and pastoral care. The metaphor of shepherding as a model for leadership is prevalent throughout the Torah where we can take examples from Genesis 48:15, Exodus 16, Deuteronomy 10:18-19, and Numbers 27:17. All of these Scriptures emphasize leadership and provision that are consistent with the concept of pastoral care. Leaders are expected to guide their people spiritually, morally, and physically, just as shepherds care for their sheep. This is echoed in the NT, where leaders are called to “feed the church of God.” These parallels highlight a consistent biblical theme that leadership involves nurturing, protecting, and providing for the community. This metaphor of shepherding underscores the profound responsibility of leaders to ensure the well-being and spiritual growth of those they lead, both in the Torah and the NT.
