But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. (KJV) <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Paul teaches us a Torah principle which is to be afraid if we choose to be lawless (Romans 13:4). A parallel concept can be found in the Torah, specifically in the book of Deuteronomy. In Deuteronomy 13:11, it is written, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>&#8220;And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.&#8221;<\/em><\/span> This verse emphasizes the fear of doing evil and the consequences that follow. In addition, Leviticus 26:14-39 God warns the Israelites of the punishments that will befall them if they do not obey His commandments. These punishments include disease, famine, and exile, and are intended to instill a fear of doing evil. These passages from the Torah support the interpretation of Romans 13:4, emphasizing the fear of doing evil and the role of divine justice in punishing wrongdoing. They underscore the importance of obedience to God\u2019s Torah and the severe consequences of disobedience. Paul states this is true for us today too.
