{"id":2040,"date":"2013-02-10T12:33:46","date_gmt":"2013-02-10T12:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/?p=2040"},"modified":"2013-02-10T12:33:46","modified_gmt":"2013-02-10T12:33:46","slug":"bits-of-torah-truths-parashat-terumah-gods-plan-for-israel-and-why-it-matters-to-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/bits-of-torah-truths-parashat-terumah-gods-plan-for-israel-and-why-it-matters-to-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Bits of Torah Truths, Parashat Terumah, God\u2019s Plan for Israel and Why It Matters to Us?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weeks reading is from Parashat Terumah (<em>Shemot \/ Exodus 25:1-27:19<\/em>), the Lord tells Moshe to tell the Sons of Yisrael to raise a contribution for the Lord (<em>25:1<\/em>, <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d3\u05bc\u05b7\u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc-\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05b0\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc \u05d5\u05b0\u05d9\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05d7\u05d5\u05bc-\u05dc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b8\u05d4 \u05de\u05b5\u05d0\u05b5\u05ea \u05db\u05bc\u05b8\u05dc-\u05d0\u05b4\u05d9\u05e9\u05c1 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d9\u05b4\u05d3\u05bc\u05b0\u05d1\u05b6\u05e0\u05bc\u05d5\u05bc \u05dc\u05b4\u05d1\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05d7\u05d5\u05bc \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b8\u05ea\u05b4\u05d9<\/span>) of gold, silver, and bronze, linen materials of purple and scarlet, rams skins, and acacia wood.\u00a0 Here, the name of this week\u2019s portion is Terumah (<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b8\u05d4<\/span>) and is derived from the word <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05ea\u05e8\u05dd<\/span> meaning \u201cto donate or contribute.\u201d\u00a0 Terumat hamaaser is the tithe offering (<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05ea\u05e8\u05d5\u05de\u05ea \u05d4\u05de\u05e2\u05e9\u05e8<\/span>) is a rabbinical Hebrew term based on the commandment in the Hebrew Bible to give a tithe maaser of 10% to the Levites.\u00a0 Terumah Gedolah is the \u201cgreat offering\u201d (<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05ea\u05e8\u05d5\u05de\u05d4 \u05d2\u05d3\u05d5\u05dc\u05d4<\/span>) which is, usually, a food item given to the Cohen (Priest), as a gift.\u00a0 In this week\u2019s study, according to the way the text is written, we learn God calls for the people to offer a <em>\u201cVolitional Terumah\u201d<\/em> (gift offering) to the Lord for the purpose of the construction of the Tabernacle.\u00a0 The Lord then states that a sanctuary (Tabernacle) be made so that He can dwell among the people (<em>25:8<\/em>).\u00a0 The Lord shows Moshe the pattern of the tabernacle and the furniture for the tabernacle (<em>25:9-27:19<\/em>). (NASB)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In this week\u2019s reading, we are given a summary of the details on the construction of the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, the table of Show bread, the altar of incense, the altar for the burnt offering, and the Menorah.\u00a0 Prior to the construction of these things, the Lord spoke to Moshe saying <span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u05d1\u00a0\u00a0 \u05d3\u05bc\u05b7\u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc-\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05b0\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc \u05d5\u05b0\u05d9\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05d7\u05d5\u05bc-\u05dc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b8\u05d4 \u05de\u05b5\u05d0\u05b5\u05ea \u05db\u05bc\u05b8\u05dc-\u05d0\u05b4\u05d9\u05e9\u05c1 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d9\u05b4\u05d3\u05bc\u05b0\u05d1\u05b6\u05e0\u05bc\u05d5\u05bc \u05dc\u05b4\u05d1\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05d7\u05d5\u05bc \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b8\u05ea\u05b4\u05d9:<\/span> <em>25:2 \u2018Tell the sons of Israel to raise a contribution for Me; from every man whose heart moves him you shall raise My contribution.
