{"id":1143,"date":"2011-03-06T02:36:00","date_gmt":"2011-03-06T02:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/bblog2\/client\/index.cfm\/2011\/3\/5\/Parashat-Vayikra-The-Salt-of-the-Covenant-of-Our-God"},"modified":"2012-09-29T16:21:40","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:21:40","slug":"parashat-vayikra-the-salt-of-the-covenant-of-our-god-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/parashat-vayikra-the-salt-of-the-covenant-of-our-god-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Parashat Vayikra, The Salt of the Covenant of Our God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<!-- Place some text here to wrap near image --><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This week&rsquo;s Parashat, Parashat<br \/>\nVayikra (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Vayikra \/ Leviticus 1:1-5:26<\/em><\/font>), details five types of<br \/>\nkorbanot (sacrifices).&nbsp; The Torah states that only three of all the kosher animals would be acceptable<br \/>\nto offer as a korban upon the altar.&nbsp; These animals were to be defect-free oxen, sheep, and goats, and<br \/>\nonly two birds were allowed, turtledoves and pigeons.&nbsp; In addition to this, a poor person may offer a<br \/>\ngrain offering and this grain was used to provide bread for the Kohanim (Priests).&nbsp; The five types of<br \/>\nkorbanot are (i) the Olah Offering (&ldquo;Ascending offering&rdquo;), (ii) the Minchah Offering (&ldquo;Meal<br \/>\noffering&rdquo;), (iii) the Shelamim Offering (&ldquo;Peace offering&rdquo;), (iv) the Chatat Offering (&ldquo;Sin<br \/>\noffering&rdquo;), and (v) the Asham Offering (&ldquo;Guilt offering&rdquo;).&nbsp; While reading through this<br \/>\nweek&rsquo;s Parashat, the verse in <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Vayikra \/ Leviticus 2:13<\/em><\/font><br \/>\ncaught my eye which says <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>2:13 &#8216;Every grain offering of yours, moreover,<br \/>\nyou shall season with salt, so that the salt of the covenant of your God shall not be lacking from your<br \/>\ngrain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.
