{"id":1094,"date":"2012-01-01T17:23:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-01T17:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/bblog2\/client\/index.cfm\/2012\/1\/1\/Parashat-Vayechi-The-Lion-of-the-Tribe-of-Judah"},"modified":"2012-09-29T16:19:19","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:19:19","slug":"parashat-vayechi-the-lion-of-the-tribe-of-judah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/parashat-vayechi-the-lion-of-the-tribe-of-judah\/","title":{"rendered":"Parashat Vayechi, The Lion of the Tribe of Judah."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<!-- Place some text here to wrap near image --><\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s reading from Parashat Vayechi (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Bereshit \/ Genesis 47:28-50:26<\/em><\/font>) contains the final chapters of the book of Genesis.&nbsp; The opening verses tell us that Yaakov (Yisrael) lived in the land of Mitzrayim (Egypt) seventeen years and the total years of his life were 147 years.&nbsp; Before Yaakov died he asked Yoseph saying <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05dc&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05d5\u05b0\u05e9\u05c1\u05b8\u05db\u05b7\u05d1\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05e2\u05b4\u05dd-\u05d0\u05b2\u05d1\u05b9\u05ea\u05b7\u05d9 \u05d5\u05bc\u05e0\u05b0\u05e9\u05b8\u05b9\u05d0\u05ea\u05b7\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05de\u05b4\u05de\u05bc\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05e8\u05b7\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd \u05d5\u05bc\u05e7\u05b0\u05d1\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b7\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05d1\u05bb\u05e8\u05b8\u05ea\u05b8\u05dd \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05de\u05b7\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b8\u05e0\u05b9\u05db\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b6\u05e2\u05b0\u05e9\u05b6\u05b9\u05d4 \u05db\u05b4\u05d3\u05b0\u05d1\u05b8\u05e8\u05b6\u05da\u05b8: \u05dc\u05d0&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05de\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d4\u05b4\u05e9\u05bc\u05c1\u05b8\u05d1\u05b0\u05e2\u05b8\u05d4 \u05dc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b4\u05e9\u05bc\u05c1\u05b8\u05d1\u05b7\u05e2 \u05dc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b7\u05d7\u05d5\u05bc \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05b0\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc-\u05e8\u05b9\u05d0\u05e9\u05c1 \u05d4\u05b7\u05de\u05bc\u05b4\u05d8\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4: &#8220;<\/em> <em><font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">47:30<\/font> but when I lie down with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burial place.&rsquo; And he said, &lsquo;I will do as you have said.&rsquo;&nbsp; <\/em><font style=\"color: #000000;\">Yoseph takes his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim and has Yaakov bless them (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>48:1-2<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Yaakov tells Yoseph that these two sons (Manasseh and Ephraim) will be his (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>48:5<\/em><\/font>) and declares that Yoseph&#8217;s descendents after him shall be called after their names (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>48:6<\/em><\/font>)<\/font><\/font><font style=\"color: #000000;\">.&nbsp;<\/font> Yaakov recounts the death of his wife Rachael (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>48:7-9<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Yaakov blesses Yoseph&rsquo;s children placing Ephraim (second born) before Manasseh (first born) saying the younger will be greater than the older (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>48:10-20<\/em><\/font>) <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05d5\u05b0\u05d2\u05b7\u05dd-\u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d0 \u05d9\u05b4\u05d2\u05b0\u05d3\u05bc\u05b8\u05dc \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05d5\u05bc\u05dc\u05b8\u05dd \u05d0\u05b8\u05d7\u05b4\u05d9\u05d5 \u05d4\u05b7\u05e7\u05bc\u05b8\u05d8\u05b9\u05df \u05d9\u05b4\u05d2\u05b0\u05d3\u05bc\u05b7\u05dc \u05de\u05b4\u05de\u05bc\u05b6\u05e0\u05bc\u05d5\u05bc \u05d5\u05b0\u05d6\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05e2\u05d5\u05b9 \u05d9\u05b4\u05d4\u05b0\u05d9\u05b6\u05d4 \u05de\u05b0\u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05d4\u05b7\u05d2\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd<\/em>.<\/font>&nbsp; Yaakov then proceeds to make statements against his sons on account of what they had done while in the land of Canaan (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>49:1-26<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; In the midst of Yaakov&rsquo;s blessing over his sons he provides us with a Messianic expectation in his statements to Judah <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05d9\u05b8\u05e1\u05d5\u05bc\u05e8 \u05e9\u05c1\u05b5\u05d1\u05b6\u05d8 \u05de\u05b4\u05d9\u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d3\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b0\u05d7\u05b9\u05e7\u05b5\u05e7 \u05de\u05b4\u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05e8\u05b7\u05d2\u05b0\u05dc\u05b8\u05d9\u05d5 \u05e2\u05b7\u05d3 \u05db\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9-\u05d9\u05b8\u05d1\u05b9\u05d0 \u05e9\u05c1\u05b4\u05d9\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4 \u05d5\u05b0\u05dc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e7\u05bc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b7\u05ea \u05e2\u05b7\u05de\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd<\/em><em> <\/em>&nbsp;<em>49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler&#8217;s staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
