{"id":1089,"date":"2012-02-05T14:13:00","date_gmt":"2012-02-05T14:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/bblog2\/client\/index.cfm\/2012\/2\/5\/Parashat-Yitro-Do-not-look-to-the-altar-that-is-hewn-by-human-hands"},"modified":"2012-09-29T16:18:49","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:18:49","slug":"parashat-yitro-do-not-look-to-the-altar-that-is-hewn-by-human-hands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/parashat-yitro-do-not-look-to-the-altar-that-is-hewn-by-human-hands\/","title":{"rendered":"Parashat Yitro, Do not look to the altar that is hewn by human hands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<!-- Place some text here to wrap near image --><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;This week&#8217;s reading is from Parashat Yitro (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Shemot \/ Exodus 18:1-20:26<\/em><\/font>) the name of the Parashah <em>&#8220;Yitro&#8221;<\/em> is the name of Moshe&#8217;s father-in-law.&nbsp; The Scriptures tell us Moshe had two sons, Gershom and Eleazar (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>18:1-2<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Yitro (Jethro) came to Moshe bringing his wife Zipporah and his two sons (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>18:6-8<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Moshe told Yitro everything the Lord had done as a result Yitro said <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05d9&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05de\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d9\u05b4\u05ea\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05b9 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b8\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05da\u05b0 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d4\u05b4\u05e6\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05dc \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea\u05b0\u05db\u05b6\u05dd \u05de\u05b4\u05d9\u05bc\u05b7\u05d3 \u05de\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05e8\u05b7\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd \u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b4\u05d9\u05bc\u05b7\u05d3 \u05e4\u05bc\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05e2\u05b9\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d4\u05b4\u05e6\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05dc \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05d4\u05b8\u05e2\u05b8\u05dd \u05de\u05b4\u05ea\u05bc\u05b7\u05d7\u05b7\u05ea \u05d9\u05b7\u05d3-\u05de\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05e8\u05b8\u05d9\u05b4\u05dd: <\/em><\/font>&nbsp;&nbsp;<em><font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">18:10 So Jethro said, &lsquo;Blessed be the Lord who delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of Pharaoh, and who delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians. (NASB)<\/font><\/em>&nbsp; The telling of the miracles of God resulted in Yitro praising the Name of the Lord.&nbsp; Moshe and Yitro make an offering before the Lord and then sat down to eat with the elders of Yisrael before the Lord (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>18:12<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The next day, Yitro saw all that Moshe was doing for the people and recommended that Moshe select leaders from the people as judges so that only the heavy matters Moshe would judge (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>18:13-26<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Moshe then said farewell to his father-in-law and it is written on the third month after the exodus the people arrived at the wilderness of Sinai (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>18:26-19:1<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Moshe brought the word of the people to the Lord and the Lord told Moshe to go to the people and consecrate them for on the third day the Lord will come down on the Mountain of Sinai (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>19:7-16<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The Lord warned Moshe to warn the people not to break through and gaze so they would not die (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>19:24-25<\/em><\/font>) and God called Moshe and Aharon to come up on the mountain.&nbsp; The Lord then gives the people His ten commandments (i) to have no other gods before Him (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:1-5<\/em><\/font>), (ii) do not take the name of the Lord in vain (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:6-7<\/em><\/font>), (iii) remember the Shabbat (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:8-11<\/em><\/font>), (iv) honor your father and mother (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:12<\/em><\/font>), (v) do not murder (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:13<\/em><\/font>), (vi) do not commit adultery (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:14<\/em><\/font>), (vii) do not steal (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:15<\/em><\/font>), (viii) do not bear false witness against your neighbor (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:16<\/em><\/font>), (ix) do not covet your neighbors house (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:19<\/em><\/font>), and (x) do not covet your neighbors wife, male or female servants, his ox, donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>20:19<\/em><\/font>) This week&#8217;s Parashah ends saying:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong><em>\u05e4\u05e8\u05e9\u05ea \u05d9\u05ea\u05e8\u05d5 \u05e1\u05e4\u05e8 \u05e9\u05de\u05d5\u05ea \u05e4\u05e8\u05e7 \u05db \u05e4\u05e1\u05d5\u05e7 \u05db\u05d0-\u05db\u05d2<\/em><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>\u05db\u05d0&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05d5\u05b0\u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05ea\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05dc\u05b6\u05d4 \u05d1\u05b0\u05de\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05dc\u05b9\u05ea \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc-\u05de\u05b4\u05d6\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05d7\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05ea\u05b4\u05d2\u05bc\u05b8\u05dc\u05b6\u05d4 \u05e2\u05b6\u05e8\u05b0\u05d5\u05b8\u05ea\u05b0\u05da\u05b8 \u05e2\u05b8\u05dc\u05b8\u05d9\u05d5:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When making an altar to bring the burnt offering and peace offering, <em>&ldquo;in every place that my name is remembered, I will come and bless you&rdquo;<\/em> (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e7\u05b8\u05e8\u05b6\u05da\u05b8 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05db\u05b8\u05dc-\u05d4\u05b7\u05de\u05bc\u05b8\u05e7\u05d5\u05b9\u05dd \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b7\u05d6\u05b0\u05db\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05de\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b8\u05d1\u05d5\u05b9\u05d0 \u05d0\u05b5\u05dc\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b5\u05e8\u05b7\u05db\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05da\u05b8<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; In addition to this, the Lord says <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b4\u05dd-\u05de\u05b4\u05d6\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b7\u05d7 \u05d0\u05b2\u05d1\u05b8\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd \u05ea\u05bc\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05e9\u05b6\u05b9\u05d4-\u05dc\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05ea\u05b4\u05d1\u05b0\u05e0\u05b6\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea\u05b0\u05d4\u05b6\u05df \u05d2\u05bc\u05b8\u05d6\u05b4\u05d9\u05ea \u05db\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d7\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05da\u05b8 \u05d4\u05b5\u05e0\u05b7\u05e4\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8 \u05e2\u05b8\u05dc\u05b6\u05d9\u05d4\u05b8 \u05d5\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05d7\u05b7\u05dc\u05b0\u05dc\u05b6\u05d4\u05b8<\/em> &nbsp;<em>&#8216;If you make an altar of stone for Me, you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it.
