{"id":1087,"date":"2012-02-19T14:42:00","date_gmt":"2012-02-19T14:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/bblog2\/client\/index.cfm\/2012\/2\/19\/Parashat-Terumah-The-Glory-of-God-Reveals-the-Need-for-Blood-Atonement"},"modified":"2012-09-29T16:18:42","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:18:42","slug":"parashat-terumah-the-glory-of-god-reveals-the-need-for-blood-atonement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/parashat-terumah-the-glory-of-god-reveals-the-need-for-blood-atonement\/","title":{"rendered":"Parashat Terumah, The Glory of God Reveals the Need for Blood Atonement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<!-- Place some text here to wrap near image --><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;This week&#8217;s Parashah, Parashat Terumah (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Shemot \/ Exodus 25:1-27:19<\/em><\/font>) the Lord tells Moshe to tell the Sons of Yisrael to raise a contribution for the Lord (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">25:1<\/font>, <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05d3\u05bc\u05b7\u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc-\u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05b0\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc \u05d5\u05b0\u05d9\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05d7\u05d5\u05bc-\u05dc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b8\u05d4 \u05de\u05b5\u05d0\u05b5\u05ea \u05db\u05bc\u05b8\u05dc-\u05d0\u05b4\u05d9\u05e9\u05c1 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d9\u05b4\u05d3\u05bc\u05b0\u05d1\u05b6\u05e0\u05bc\u05d5\u05bc \u05dc\u05b4\u05d1\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05d7\u05d5\u05bc \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b8\u05ea\u05b4\u05d9<\/em><\/font>) of gold, silver, and bronze, linen materials, goat hair, rams skins, and acacia wood.&nbsp; The word Terumah (<em>\u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05d5\u05bc\u05de\u05b8\u05d4<\/em>) is derived from the word <em>\u05ea\u05e8\u05dd<\/em> meaning <em>&ldquo;to donate or contribute.&rdquo;<\/em>&nbsp; Terumat Hamaaser and Terumah Gedola (types of heave offerings) were the offerings that were the possession of the Cohanim (Priests) and could be eaten by themselves and their families.&nbsp; The Terumah obligatory offering that the Lord is asking here in this week&rsquo;s study is for the purpose of the construction of the Mishkhan (Tabernacle).&nbsp; It is within the Mishkhan that the various sacrifices (Korbanot, <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05e7\u05b8\u05e8\u05b0\u05d1\u05b3\u05bc\u05e0\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea<\/em><\/font>) are to be offered by the Cohanim consisting of animals such as sheep, bulls, goats, doves (for the poor), grain (Mincha), wine, and incense. &nbsp;The Lord then asks that a sanctuary (Mishkhan) be made so that He can dwell among them (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>25:8<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The Lord shows Moshe the pattern of the tabernacle and the furniture for the tabernacle (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>25:9-27:19<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The construction of the Ark of the Covenant is given in <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>25:10-22<\/em><\/font>.&nbsp; It is interesting here that the Lord instructs Moshe to construct the mercy seat upon the <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05d0\u05e8\u05d5\u05df \u05d4\u05d1\u05e8\u05d9\u05ea<\/em><\/font> (Ark of the Covenant) making the image of two Cherubim (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05db\u05bc\u05b0\u05e8\u05bb\u05d1\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Two Parshiot ago, in Parashat Yitro, in the giving of the Ten Commandments (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05e2\u05e9\u05e8\u05ea \u05d4\u05d3\u05d1\u05e8\u05d5\u05ea<\/em><\/font>) we find the command to make no graven images.&nbsp; However, in today&rsquo;s Parashah we find God instructing to construct two Cherubim to be placed upon the Mercy Seat the cover of the Ark of the Covenant.&nbsp; Is this a violation of His own mitzvah (command) or is there something special that the Lord is trying to show us concerning the Mercy Seat?
