{"id":1079,"date":"2012-04-15T23:47:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-15T23:47:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/bblog2\/client\/index.cfm\/2012\/4\/15\/Parashat-Shemini-Let-us-Sanctify-the-Name-of-the-Lord-in-our-Lives"},"modified":"2012-09-29T16:21:50","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:21:50","slug":"parashat-shemini-let-us-sanctify-the-name-of-the-lord-in-our-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/parashat-shemini-let-us-sanctify-the-name-of-the-lord-in-our-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Parashat Shemini, Let us Sanctify the Name of the Lord in our Lives!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<!-- Place some text here to wrap near image --><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;In this week&#8217;s portion from Parashat Shemini (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Vayikra \/ Leviticus 9:1-11:47<\/em><\/font>)  we read on the eighth day Moshe called Aharon and his sons and told  them to take a bull for a Chatat Korban (Sin offering) and a ram for a  Olah Korban (Whole burnt offering) and offer them before the Lord (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u05d0&nbsp;&nbsp;  \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d1\u05bc\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05d5\u05b9\u05dd \u05d4\u05b7\u05e9\u05bc\u05c1\u05b0\u05de\u05b4\u05d9\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05e7\u05b8\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0 \u05de\u05b9\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05d4 \u05dc\u05b0\u05d0\u05b7\u05d4\u05b2\u05e8\u05b9\u05df \u05d5\u05bc\u05dc\u05b0\u05d1\u05b8\u05e0\u05b8\u05d9\u05d5  \u05d5\u05bc\u05dc\u05b0\u05d6\u05b4\u05e7\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05b0\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc: \u05d1&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05de\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc-\u05d0\u05b7\u05d4\u05b2\u05e8\u05b9\u05df \u05e7\u05b7\u05d7-\u05dc\u05b0\u05da\u05b8 \u05e2\u05b5\u05d2\u05b6\u05dc  \u05d1\u05bc\u05b6\u05df-\u05d1\u05bc\u05b8\u05e7\u05b8\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b0\u05d7\u05b7\u05d8\u05bc\u05b8\u05d0\u05ea \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b7\u05d9\u05b4\u05dc \u05dc\u05b0\u05e2\u05b9\u05dc\u05b8\u05d4 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b0\u05de\u05b4\u05d9\u05de\u05b4\u05dd \u05d5\u05b0\u05d4\u05b7\u05e7\u05b0\u05e8\u05b5\u05d1 \u05dc\u05b4\u05e4\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9  \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4:<\/font>).&nbsp; Moshe then commanded that they are to take a male goat for a  Chatat Korban, a calf and a lamb both one year old as an Olah Korban,  these are for the people.&nbsp; Moshe tells Aharon and his sons to offering  an ox and a ram for peace offerings and a grain offering mixed with oil  because today the Lord will appear to them.&nbsp; Then Aharon and his sons  proceeded to make the offering before the Lord according to the  instruction of Moshe (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>9:7-23<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The Scriptures indicate that Aharon did these things, offering the Korbanot (sacrifices) before the Lord by fire and in <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Vayikra 9:24<\/em><\/font> it says <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u05db\u05d3&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05d5\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b5\u05e6\u05b5\u05d0 \u05d0\u05b5\u05e9\u05c1 \u05de\u05b4\u05dc\u05bc\u05b4\u05e4\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d5\u05b7\u05ea\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05db\u05b7\u05dc  \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc-\u05d4\u05b7\u05de\u05bc\u05b4\u05d6\u05b0\u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05d7\u05b7 \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05d4\u05b8\u05e2\u05b9\u05dc\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05d4\u05b7\u05d7\u05b2\u05dc\u05b8\u05d1\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05d0 \u05db\u05bc\u05b8\u05dc-\u05d4\u05b8\u05e2\u05b8\u05dd  \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b8\u05e8\u05b9\u05e0\u05bc\u05d5\u05bc \u05d5\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b4\u05e4\u05bc\u05b0\u05dc\u05d5\u05bc \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc-\u05e4\u05bc\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9\u05d4\u05b6\u05dd:&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/font><em><font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">9:24 Then fire came out  from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the portions of  fat on the altar; and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell  on their faces. (NASB)<\/font><\/em>&nbsp; Following the offerings, it is recorded in  Scripture that Nadav and Avihu went before the Lord with fire in their  firepans and offered strange fire before the Lord and God killed them (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>10:1-5<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The Lord then spoke to Aharon saying <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>&#8220;Do not drink strong drink when you come into the Ohel Moed&rdquo;<\/em><\/font> (\u05d0\u05b9\u05d4\u05b6\u05dc \u05de\u05d5\u05b9\u05e2\u05b5\u05d3, Tent of Meeting) so that he and his sons will not die,  the purpose it says<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u05d9 \u05d5\u05bc\u05dc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b7\u05d1\u05b0\u05d3\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05dc \u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05d4\u05b7\u05e7\u05bc\u05b9\u05d3\u05b6\u05e9\u05c1 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05d4\u05b7\u05d7\u05b9\u05dc \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b5\u05d9\u05df  \u05d4\u05b7\u05d8\u05bc\u05b8\u05de\u05b5\u05d0 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05d4\u05b7\u05d8\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05e8:<\/font> to make a distinction between the holy and  profane, between unclean and clean.&nbsp; Moshe again instructs Aharon and  his sons to eat of the Mincha (grain) offering because it is their  portion; the grain offering is to be eating beside the altar of God  because it is most holy.&nbsp; The breast of the wave offering and the thigh  are to be eaten in a clean place (not alongside the altar) this was  their portion to be eaten.&nbsp; At this point Aharon and his sons do not eat  the portion of meat and Moshe is angry, he says <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u05d9\u05d6&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05de\u05b7\u05d3\u05bc\u05d5\u05bc\u05e2\u05b7  \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05d0\u05b2\u05db\u05b7\u05dc\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b6\u05dd \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05d4\u05b7\u05d7\u05b7\u05d8\u05bc\u05b8\u05d0\u05ea \u05d1\u05bc\u05b4\u05de\u05b0\u05e7\u05d5\u05b9\u05dd \u05d4\u05b7\u05e7\u05bc\u05b9\u05d3\u05b6\u05e9\u05c1 \u05db\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05e7\u05b9\u05d3\u05b6\u05e9\u05c1 \u05e7\u05b8\u05d3\u05b8\u05e9\u05c1\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd  \u05d4\u05b4\u05d5\u05d0 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b9\u05ea\u05b8\u05d4\u05bc | \u05e0\u05b8\u05ea\u05b7\u05df \u05dc\u05b8\u05db\u05b6\u05dd \u05dc\u05b8\u05e9\u05b5\u05b9\u05d0\u05ea \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05e2\u05b2\u05d5\u05b9\u05df \u05d4\u05b8\u05e2\u05b5\u05d3\u05b8\u05d4 \u05dc\u05b0\u05db\u05b7\u05e4\u05bc\u05b5\u05e8 \u05e2\u05b2\u05dc\u05b5\u05d9\u05d4\u05b6\u05dd  \u05dc\u05b4\u05e4\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4: \u05d9\u05d7&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05d4\u05b5\u05df \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0-\u05d4\u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b8\u05d0 \u05d0\u05b6\u05ea-\u05d3\u05bc\u05b8\u05de\u05b8\u05d4\u05bc \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc-\u05d4\u05b7\u05e7\u05bc\u05b9\u05d3\u05b6\u05e9\u05c1 \u05e4\u05bc\u05b0\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9\u05de\u05b8\u05d4  \u05d0\u05b8\u05db\u05d5\u05b9\u05dc \u05ea\u05bc\u05b9\u05d0\u05db\u05b0\u05dc\u05d5\u05bc \u05d0\u05b9\u05ea\u05b8\u05d4\u05bc \u05d1\u05bc\u05b7\u05e7\u05bc\u05b9\u05d3\u05b6\u05e9\u05c1 \u05db\u05bc\u05b7\u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05e6\u05b4\u05d5\u05bc\u05b5\u05d9\u05ea\u05b4\u05d9: &nbsp;<em>10:17 &lsquo;Why  did you not eat the sin offering at the holy place? For it is most  holy, and He gave it to you to bear away the guilt of the congregation,  to make atonement for them before the Lord.&nbsp; 10:18 &lsquo;Behold, since its  blood had not been brought inside, into the sanctuary, you should  certainly have eaten it in the sanctuary, just as I commanded.&rsquo; (NASB)<\/em><\/font>&nbsp;  The goat was for the Chatat Korban (Sin offering) and the Cohen was to  eat a portion of the offering in order to bear the guilt of the people  and then make atonement on behalf of the people before God.&nbsp; Aharon says  that his sons dying are the reason he did not eat of the offering as he  was commanded to do (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>10:19<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Following these things, the Lord  gives the Mitzvot (commands) on Kashrut, the dietary laws relating to  what foods are clean and unclean to eat.&nbsp; The purpose was to <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u05de\u05d6&nbsp;&nbsp;  \u05dc\u05b0\u05d4\u05b7\u05d1\u05b0\u05d3\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05dc \u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05d4\u05b7\u05d8\u05bc\u05b8\u05de\u05b5\u05d0 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05d4\u05b7\u05d8\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4\u05b9\u05e8 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05d4\u05b7\u05d7\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d4\u05b7\u05e0\u05bc\u05b6\u05d0\u05b1\u05db\u05b6\u05dc\u05b6\u05ea  \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05d4\u05b7\u05d7\u05b7\u05d9\u05bc\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05dc\u05b9\u05d0 \u05ea\u05b5\u05d0\u05b8\u05db\u05b5\u05dc: &nbsp;<em>11:47 to make a distinction  between the unclean and the clean, and between the edible creature and  the creature which is not to be eaten.
