{"id":1071,"date":"2012-06-04T16:43:00","date_gmt":"2012-06-04T16:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.matsati.com\/bblog2\/client\/index.cfm\/2012\/6\/4\/Parashat-Behaalotcha-The-importance-of-the-Passover-Lamb"},"modified":"2012-09-29T16:23:12","modified_gmt":"2012-09-29T16:23:12","slug":"parashat-behaalotcha-the-importance-of-the-passover-lamb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.matsati.com\/index.php\/parashat-behaalotcha-the-importance-of-the-passover-lamb\/","title":{"rendered":"Parashat Beha&#8217;alotcha, The importance of the Passover Lamb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<!-- Place some text here to wrap near image --><\/p>\n<p>In week&rsquo;s reading from Parashat Beha&rsquo;alotcha (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u05d1\u05d4\u05e2\u05dc\u05ea\u05da<\/font>) <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Bamidbar \/ Numbers 8:1-9:14<\/em><\/font> God commands Moshe on the construction of the Menorah and that the seven lamps are to give their light from the front of the lampstand (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>8:1-3<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The Lord then instructs Moshe to take the Leviim from among the Sons of Yisrael and cleanse them.&nbsp; The purification process includes the sprinkling of water, using a razor to remove all of their hair, and to wash their bodies and clothing (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>8:6-7<\/em><\/font>). &nbsp;The Cohanim (Priests) are purified for service in the Mishkhan (Tabernacle) along with an offering that is made by the blood of a bull for a Chatat Korban (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05dc\u05b0\u05d7\u05b7\u05d8\u05bc\u05b8\u05d0\u05ea<\/em><\/font>, Sin Offering) and a Mincha Korban (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05de\u05b4\u05e0\u05b0\u05d7\u05b8\u05ea<\/em><\/font>, Grain Offering) mixed with oil (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>8:8<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The Cohanim are presented before God and before the people (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>8:9<\/em><\/font>) as a wave offering and only then are they qualified to perform their duties of service before the Lord (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>8:11<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; During the Korbanot (Sacrifices), the Cohanim are to lay their hands upon the head of the bulls; one is to be made as a Chatat Korban and the other as an Olah Korban (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>\u05e2\u05b9\u05dc\u05b8\u05d4<\/em><\/font>, Whole burnt offering) (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>8:12<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; Scripture goes on to say that the Lord will take the Levites instead of every first born of Yisrael drawing a parallel with the Passover and the first born dying (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>8:16<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; The Leviim are instructed to perform the service of work in the Mishkhan between the ages of twenty five and fifty years of age (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\">8:24-25<\/font>).&nbsp; The Lord then spoke to Moshe instructing the Children of Yisrael to observe the Pesach (Passover) festival saying that the Pesach festival is so important even a person who has touched a dead person and become unclean must still observe the festival (<font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>9:9<\/em><\/font>).&nbsp; It is written in <font style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Vayikra \/ Leviticus 9:18<\/em> <em>\u05d9\u05d7&nbsp;&nbsp; \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc-\u05e4\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e1\u05b0\u05e2\u05d5\u05bc \u05d1\u05bc\u05b0\u05e0\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05b0\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0\u05b5\u05dc \u05d5\u05b0\u05e2\u05b7\u05dc-\u05e4\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05d5\u05b9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d9\u05b7\u05d7\u05b2\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc \u05db\u05bc\u05b8\u05dc-\u05d9\u05b0\u05de\u05b5\u05d9 \u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05c1\u05b6\u05e8 \u05d9\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05db\u05bc\u05b9\u05df \u05d4\u05b6\u05e2\u05b8\u05e0\u05b8\u05df \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc-\u05d4\u05b7\u05de\u05bc\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05db\u05bc\u05b8\u05df \u05d9\u05b7\u05d7\u05b2\u05e0\u05d5\u05bc:<\/em> <em>9:18 At the command of the Lord the sons of Israel would set out, and at the command of the Lord they would camp; as long as the cloud settled over the tabernacle, they remained camped.
