I put together these slides to help with understanding the literary technique in Sefer Bereshit (Book of Genesis). The literary technique that Moshe used when he wrote the account of God’s creation is written in the “Historical Narrative.” The Historical Narrative is understood from the use of the vav-consecutive writing pattern found in the text. Therefore, from a plane reading of Sefer Bereshit it is not possible to describe this portion of the text in terms of millions of years as is explained in the “gap theory” and other theories that suggest God used evolution in His creative process.
